a first pressing of the lp "Zeck rythm" by STALO & KAURAS as released on Recordsound 840603 in 1984 in Holland. (a) This is a very rare PRIVATELY released album (Recordsound was the label of the studio of the same name in the tiny town of Edam, Holland). Wild experimental percussion album from Dutch-Mali drummer duo Simon De Swaaf and Cherif Keita (or Chrif Keita, Chérif Keïta.) The music on here is hard to describe -- drums and all sort of other instruments and electronics make for a harsh, tribal-rhythmic soundscape. It's entirely instrumental but with found voices in different languages emerging out of radio-wave static. Z'Ev or AMM III, Keith Rowe/Eddie Prévost, all are reference points, but the Malian influence opens the rhythms up wider and the raw beats are funkier, at times it has the feel of No Wave funk like ESG, Liquid Liquid or even early 23 SKidoo. Needless to say, this LP is just swimming in beats and drum breaks and all kinds of percussion samples ready for the taking. Grading: the record: NEAR MINT condition (there's a strange spot on side 2 but it plays through fine) the cover: NEAR MINT condition All my lp's have been cleaned on a professional record cleaning machine for more and better listening pleasure! This is a very rare PRIVATELY released album (Recordsound was the label of the studio of the same name in the tiny town of Edam, Holland).
