SPELLER MISTAKES - ISSUE #1 (STOP PRESS 1980 ISSUE!) (UK, NORTH DEVON ~ DECEMBER 1979 / JANUARY 1980) - ORIGINAL AND COMPLETE PUNK & POLITICS FANZINE THE UNLOADED LUGER OF ANARCHY Original and rare 1st issue (most probably, no issue number on it) of an obscure cultural and political fanzine from North Devon. 'Arts, Science, Philosophy, and the Pursuit of Knowledge' as the editor states on cover. Fanzine is created by Paul Drew (see his band Zimbabwe Brothers who released some very rare electronic cassettes in the early '80s) who also created the fanzine 'CONTEMPT' mainly directed to local Conservative MP Tony Speller (same target as for 'Speller Mistakes' I guess). Paul Drew as part-time poet had a poem titled 'Entertainment' which inspired 'That's Entertainment' by the Jam (there's a letter from Paul Weller to him with request to use the title of the poem, see also 'Speller Mistakes' #3 for a Paul Weller poem contributed in it). The fanzine was originally supposed to have a free badge attached but this one doesn't have it, neither I can see any marks from an attached badge, so possibly not with all copies. The date must be December 1979 or January 1980 due to the sub-title 'Stop Press 1980 issue' on cover but all the subjects inside and the music features refer to 1979 releases plus there are some features on Xmas so could be late December too. In this issue: THOMAS LEER AND ROBERT RENTAL - THE BRIDGE LP ON INDUSTRIAL RECORDS ("..it's several steps above the works of the grossly naive Throbbing Gristle ..") GROW-UP - THE BEST THING LP ON OBJECT MUSIC SPELLER MISTAKE EIGHTIES POLL TOWN AND COUNTRY NEWS SUMMARY NORTH DEVON FOR FRANCE BOOK REVIEW - 1979 BOOK OF THE YEAR - THE YAWNING HEIGHTS BY ALEXANDER ZINOVIEV THE TRUTH ABOUT THE LIES - AFGHANISTAN MUSIC FOR PLEASURE HOLLYWOOD GROANS XMAS FARMING SONG AND POEM and more Great piece of punk & new wave memorabilia, 100% genuine, complete and in nice condition.
