Description
Prestige Records 7079, this is a mono pressing of the legendary Sonny Rollins LP "Saxophone Colossus". Rollins is joined on this seminal date by Tommy Flanagan, Doug Watkins, and Max Roach. This pressing has the yellow and black Prestige labels with the "203 South Washington Ave, Bergenfield, NJ" address notation and the "deep groove" on either side, although it is not as prominant as ones I have seen before; "RVG" is clearly etched in the dead wax. Laminated cover is beautiful NM-, showing only a hint of wear to the two right side corners and minor tanning on back. Vinyl is just as nice, a shiny and clean NM- showing no scratches or scuffs. There are a few minor (and I mean minor!) hairlines visible under a 75 watt light, but nothing to make much note of. Sound quality is superb throughout, with no real flaws to speak of. Labels are crisp with no spindle wear. A really sweet early pressing of this super LP, the best one I have come across in my extensive record travels.
