Slapp Happy were an avant-garde pop group formed in Hamburg in 1972, and fronted by Dagmar Krause, in turn was flanked by guitarist Anthony Moore and keyboardist Peter Blegvad. Their first album, Sort Of demonstrated their implied oeuvre of quirky melodies, art rock tingings and surreal lyrics. Considered their most accessible album (compared to a more challenging later output), it features 12 tracks of whimsical and playful pastoralism, with choral folk, cabaret, and jazz influences ringing true across a mythical blues-rock wonderworld. The whole thing is reminiscent of a sonic Lewis Carroll epic, whose narrative behaves as unpredictably as his stories did.
