THIS IS IN BEAUTIFUL SHAPE!   No seam splits, lots of gloss.  A couple of VERY light corner dings.  We could put this in shrinkwrap and the cover would pass as new.  SEE THE PHOTOS.

These guys went by many names, like ZUBABA, THE BEES, The PYRAMIDS ( uh, almost SIMARYP backward, but lacking a D ), and alternate spelling of "almost" Pyramids backward, but mixing up the Y/I vowels, SYMARIP

Symarip (also known at various stages of their career as The Bees, The Pyramids, Seven Letters) were a ska and reggae band from the United Kingdom, originating in the late 1960s, when Frank Pitter / Frank Pitta and Michael Thomas founded the band as The Bees. The band's name was originally spelled Simaryp, which is an approximate anagram of the word 'pyramids'. Consisting of members of West Indian descent, Symarip is widely marked as one of the first skinhead reggae bands, being one of the first to target skinheads as an audience. Their hits included "Skinhead Girl", "Skinhead Jamboree" and "Skinhead Moonstomp" which was based on the Derrick Morgan song, "Moon Hop".

They moved to Germany in 1971, performing reggae and Afro-rock in Germany under the name Zubaba. In 1980, the album Skinhead Moonstomp was re-issued in the wake of the 2 Tone craze, hitting the UK Singles Chart. The band officially split in 1985 after releasing the album Drunk & Disorderly as The Pyramids. The album was released by Ariola Records and was produced by Stevie B.

LINER NOTES FROM CD REISSUE:
The band’s relationship with President soured when ‘Mexican Moonlight’ was a hit in Germany, but the label neglected to tell them about it. So, just as they had changed their name to jump the Siggy ship, the lads decided to rename the band so that they could record without Ed Kassner’s knowledge. Monty came up with a Cunning Plan:

‘I came up with the idea of turning Pyramids around and you leave out the ‘d’. So originally it was spelt Simaryp. I don’t know how it came to be spelt Symarip!’

So in 1969, safe in the knowledge that Ed Kassner would never unravel the secret of their true identity, Simaryp/Symarip prepared to record for their new label, Graeme Goodall’s Treasure Isle - whose chief label was ironically called Pyramid! Before their first session, the band noticed a new element amongst the audiences at their gigs.

‘A lot of skinheads started coming to our shows, and Roy and I said, it would be good to write a song for skinheads. We remembered a song [‘I Thank You’ by Sam & Dave] where they said, ‘I want everybody to get on their feet, and this and that, and give me some of that old soul music’. I thought, let’s change the words and put, ‘I want all you skinheads to get on your feet, put your braces together and your boots on your feet, and give me some of that old moonstomping’.

Thus was one of skinhead Reggae’s most enduring anthems born - and, to its credit, it’s one of the few made-for-skinheads discs that doesn’t glorify violence. The band’s road manager hummed a tune that seemed to fit the lyrics, and Monty and Roy put the song together without realising that the tune that he’d hummed was Derrick Morgan’s ‘Moon Hop’, which apparently they hadn’t heard at the time.

That single was everywhere in late ‘69 and early ‘70, its crunching rhythm, bovver-boot effects and amusing talk-over by one ‘Caleb the boss skinhead’ shifting shed loads of copies without quite making the pop charts. Meanwhile, the lads kept busy at Graeme Goodall’s Philligree Productions, recording as Seven Letters and even as The Pyramids (no doubt when Mr. Kassner wasn’t looking) for Goodall’s Doctor Bird imprint, backing ex-Ska starlet, Millie on a decent LP that didn’t quite put her back on top, and of course laying down the tracks for the LP which forms the basis of this collection.

Whatever they were called, the band certainly kept bust in 1969 and 1970.

‘We recorded an album with the Pioneers, we did a couple of things with Desmond Dekker, and we recorded or did shows with Owen Gray, the Maytals, The Ethiopians and Laurel Aitken. We were very active on the live circuit too: every little town in England! We were a good stage band, you know. I think the peak of the stage concerts was the one at Wembley in 1970 that appeared in the film Reggae. I remember there were about 14,000 people there, and when we started playing and the skinheads started stomping, it was really a sight to see.’

We're rather amazed when we take the care that we do with the vinyl we sell, and then see another seller make more money selling the exact same item
in worse shape, and their picture shows the record out of its cover and out of its sleeve lying on a surface!  I believe the "problem" is that we try to describe every item
in detail so that you'll know exactly what you're getting.  Many sellers will simply say "excellent" "mint" or "great", having no idea what those terms mean in relation to the Goldmine Grading System.  We tell you exactly what you're getting, and even if it's been to hell and back, we still treat it like it's a piece of your mother.  Sometimes it's the detail that screws things up, I think.  If we were vague, like most sellers, you'd just see the name of the band, the title, and a picture, and you'd buy it.  Oh well.

Many sellers seem to have a disregard for the items they're selling and only care about making their pictures look pretty.  We only care about the pieces we sell.  And you.  So you'll see that the records are displayed IN THEIR ORIGINAL SLEEVES, with just a hint of the vinyl showing so that you can see what color they are.  If you want to see the vinyl pulled from its sleeve and resting on a dusty surface, look at someone else's auction or blog and then come back to our page and buy our copy in PERFECT SHAPE.
