Scarce, Sought ORIGINAL British '69 Collectible, the rare & sought GOLD foil cover.
RARE ...Original 1969 first press in foil GOLD cover, the preferred U.K. pressing - much different design to the USA release --- this is one of the best albums by the great Savage Rose ...an Lp filled with fiery exotic progressive moves and the band gets high ratings and has long been hailed all over the universe.
The music of Savage Rose is a mixture of psychedelic/progressive rock with jazz, blues and Danish-Euro folk elements and strong use of keyboards. The special feature is the exotic and powerful voice of Annisette, who as a unique vocalist comes highly recommended! Savage Rose sounds a little bit like the Jefferson Airplane, and their arrangements showed a cross-idiomatic musical sophistication that many States and British bands should envy, including a bit of Hungarian gypsy influence in 'Evening's Child'. Their early work hears faint echoes of the Airplane, Doors, Pink Floyd, and other psychedelic heavyweights combined with classical progressive Danish-Euro elements. Their arrangements rely heavily on an incandescent, watery organ that sounds like nothing so much as psychedelic aquarium music. The most striking aspect of the band's sound, however, was the vocals of lead singer Annisette. Her childish wispy and sensual phrasing can suddenly break into jarring, almost histrionic wailing, like a Janis Joplin with Yoko Ono-isms. Their songs were mostly dark-emotioned, with a sense of Gothic gloom that would seemingly wear better on a German than a cheery clog-clopping Tulip child dane. They were and are brilliant, and their subsequent albums, Your Daily Gift and Refugee, are among the finest examples of musical art and sheer rock 'n' roll our era has to offer.
Almost the conceptual post-apocalyptic album, The Savage Rose represented the hellish world a little bit, opening up the doors of a new generation of fans to take the music of garage and progressive at the same time. No wonder Rolling Stone Magazine head editor David Fricke plays it nonstop on his turntable - maybe playing about 600 times was his quote?
