For auction is SAM RIVERS' "Fuchsia Swing Song," on Blue Note BLP 4184, MONO, RVG, Ear, 1965. With Jackie Byard, Ron Carter, Anthony Williams.

SOUND: VG+

It has been machine-cleaned and I listened to both sides completely. Overall, the playback is terrific, with clean, clear, powerful sound. That said, this is a rare record and I want to be as complete in my description as possible. There are several caveats:

- 6 consecutive, medium-volume "pops" in A2, "Downstairs Blues Upstairs."

- a total of 7 louder-volume "pops" in A3, "Cyclic Episode." These come in 3 groups: 2, followed by 3, then 2 more. All in the last 2  minutes of the cut.

- 3 soft "tics" in the segue, 1 "tic" in the intro leading into B2, "Beatrice." Much later on, 1 single soft "tic."

- at the end of B3, "Ellipsis," there is a very quiet drum interlude, during which a few very faint "crackles" are heard. 

All else, aside from the above brief, intermittent flaws, is great. I tell you truly, the overall playback experience is terrific!

VINYL: VG/VG+

Visually, the vinyl looks exceptionally nice, as it is clean and there are no scuffs or hairline scratches of any note. Close examination reveals a tiny spot (half the size of the head of a pin) which is feel-able, in A2 as the source of those 6 pops. In A3, there is one very tiny scratch that is feel-able, and a couple other little marks I can barely see, my best guess as the source of those pops. Side B has a tiny scratch in the segue of B1-B2, the cause of those pops. Again, I'm being as complete as possible in my description. Everything else about the vinyl is A-OK. 

This is the original pressing, with New York USA address on blue & white labels with P "ear" stamp. 

• Matrix / Runout (Side A runout etched): BNLP-4184.A
• Matrix / Runout (Side B runout etched): BNLP-4184.B
• Side A runout: the last 4 in the matrix number is etched over an 8 that was incorrectly etched first. 

The Side A label has a stain on it (looks like coffee). As a result, the paper on side A is a little wavy. Side B label is clean and in good shape.

COVER: VG+ or better.

The cover is beautiful. The edges and spine are solid and straight, with very minimal wear of any kind. The corners have routine minor softening/fraying, overall not bad at all. Front and back are both quite clean and unmarked, with only routine aging/wear.

The sale includes the original inner sleeve, "26 Years of Blue Note," in beautiful condition (see pics).

The photos are of the exact record up for bids. Look before you bid, ask if you want any additional info or pics. 

This rare record has its flaws, but overall still great listen. Could be a great value for the winning bidder. No reserve, bidding starts at $40.

Every record I auction has been cleaned on a Nitty Gritty vacuum/cleaner. I played every record to determine if there are static, tics, pops, hisses, what have you. I endeavor to thoroughly report any extraneous audio "noise" or problems of any significance. Other than that, I will report on the general condition of each record, both vinyl and jacket, according to Goldmine standards, to the best of my ability. 

Every record is put into a new, clean sleeve insert. In the case of an interesting original sleeve insert, I'll include that in the sale.
