Description

Powered by eCommercePlayer.com Powered by eCommercePlayer.com   The Soul Stirrers on a 78 RPM on the Specialty Records label entitled Come, Let's Go Back to God / Joy Joy to My Soul. The 78 RPM record shows some gloss, with scuffs or wear. Includes the great Sam Cooke. I found this review on the Internet:
"Come, Let's Go Back to God" was cut in Hollywood, California on 1 March 1951, at the same session as "Peace in the Valley" and "Jesus Gave Me Water", which two-sided record I have also reviewed on my 1951 list.

The Soul Stirrers on "Come, Let's Go Back to God" are Sam Cooke (lead vocal), Paul Foster (lead vocal), "Senior" Roy Crain (tenor vocal), Thomas L. Bluster (baritone vocal), R.B. Robinson (baritone vocal) and Jesse J. Farley (bass vocal), with Faidonest Wagoner providing piano accompaniment.

Paul Foster leads on the first verses, then Sam takes over for two verses, Foster returning to the lead for the final verse of the excellent gospel performance, as the group implore their listeners to return to putting their faith in God to avert mankind's disaster:-

The earth is in a blaze
The world is in a maze
The way of life today
Is strange and odd
What happened across the sea, may come to you and me

Oh, come, let us go back to God, oh, back to God
Oh, come on, let us go back, come on, let us go back
(Let's go back to God)

I know the way without my Lord mighty hard
That I know Death has marked a path
Death has marked a path we trod
Come on, let us go back, go back to God
(Let's go back to God)

There's trouble in the air, destruction is everywhere
And men are being tramped, beneath the soil
And nations great and small, have now begun to fall
Oh, come, let us go back to God
Go back to God

The Soul Stirrers came to more prominence amongst the public when three of their songs, "Come, Let's Go Back to God", "Any Day Now" and "Jesus I'll Never Forget" were featured on the soundtrack of Joel and Ethan's 2004 remake of Ealing Studio's magnificent black comedy The Ladykillers [1955].

INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMERS PLEASE READ! Once a package leaves the US, only the postal service has control over handling or delivery time. Most international shipments are arriving in about a week.

So far, all my shipments have arrived safely. The customer has the option to select insurance for absolute security.

There is a complete audio stream of at least one side of each record on the listing page. Occasionally the audio stream "times out" overseas, limiting the sound, to a brief "clip". If this happens, please email or message me, and I will try to make a correction. Here is my grading system:

NM- = record appears mostly new and uplayed

VG++ = record looks great, may be a few light paper scuffs, plays like new.

VG+ = fairly nice copy, may be a few light marks, occasional tick or pop, but mostly clean sound.

VG = wear, scuffing, light scratches, ticks and pops, but a very playable copy.

VG- many scuffs or groove wear, plays with some noise, but still listenable.

G+ = a playable copy but very very worn, plays with lots of noise

    G through G- = wall hanger
