Yes, folks, we are DEFINITELY partial to SAM COOKE.

Call this a labor of love, if you will: advertising the music and the vibrant, joyful voice of my all- time favorite singer - and spreading the Sam Cooke gospel in the process !!! That's heaven to me, indeed. Sam Cooke was the greatest American singer of all times, hands down; no ifs, ands or buts. Respectfully, the fans of Enrico Caruso, Frankie Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat "King" Cole or Billy Ecstine can take their case elsewhere - my judgment is final (and also shared by such an authority as Jerry Wexler, legendary Atlantic A&R man, who - to paraphrase his words - proclaimed that Sam Cooke was a "perfect" singer, who "had it all"). In an unlikely event that you are totally unfamiliar with Sam's music, this is his second studio album, recorded for KEEN label in 1957. Sam croons his way through 12 crossover and pop standards. Make no mistake: material here may be pop, but the voice is pure Rhythm & Blues!!! Sam Cooke could sing a mattress label and still come across as the best soul singer of them all. Plus, the selection of material has one unintended consequence: all these great, crafty pop songs of the fifties will send you on a nostalgia trip in no time at all. This is an embarrassment of the riches of the American vocal artistry; Crooning raised to the level of aesthetic and philosophical principle. Absolutely indispensible!!! Miss it an weep.

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL AS NEAR MINT. Some VERY LIGHT AND SUPERFICIAL abrasions – mostly sleeve scuffs - are (barely) visible, but are probably inaudible, and do not affect visual integrity or beauty of the vinyl. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)          The record has a "deep groove" (an indent in the label about 1/2-inch from the edge of the label, which on SOME labels is associated with very early or first pressings).

(c)             The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(d)          Stereo copies of this album are NOT known to exist.

(e)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-         The cover has a few tiny, superficial scratch marks on the front side (nothing significant)

-         Cover shows JUST A HINT of yellowing on back side, apparently from aging.

-         Cover has a minor 'bump' (dent) along the bottom seam (nothing significant)

NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:

-        No split seams

-        No ring wear

-        No cut-out (drill) holes.

-        No cut-out corners

-        No saw-marks or indents

-        No dirt/dust rubbing stains (friction marks caused by rubbing against other covers)

-        No wrinkles or creases

-        No stamps

-        No peel-off marks

-        No stains

-        No mold or mildew spots

-        No stickers or labels

-        No water damage

-        No warping

-        No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover

-        No glue traces or wax residue.
