It was released in 2002 on the 'Lost Highway' label (cat. no. 088 170 235-1) and comes in a sealed card sleeve.
'Gold' is the second studio album by Ryan Adams, the follow-up to the acclaimed debut release, 'Heartbreaker'. Released in September 2001, it remains Adams' best-selling album, certified gold in the UK (appropriately enough) and going on to sell 364,000 copies in the US and 812,000 worldwide. Produced by Ethan Johns, 'Gold' features musicians such as Bucky Baxter (guitar), Benmont Tench (organ), Jim Keltner (drums) and Chris Stills (background vox). Adams' friend and former roommate Adam Duritz (lead singer of Counting Crows) also lends background vocals to several tracks. The track 'Enemy Lines' was co-written with Gillian Welch.
The album includes 'When The Stars Go Blue', which has been covered by The Corrs, Bono and Tim McGraw. 'New York, New York' became a notable MTV and VH1 favourite following the 9/11 attacks, 'The Rescue Blues' was featured in the end credits of the 2001 film Behind Enemy Lines and 'Answering Bell' was featured in the film and on the soundtrack to Bridesmaids. Q magazine listed 'Gold' as one of the best 50 albums of 2001, while the NME ranked it at #193 on its list of 'The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time'.
