Riff Raff - A Rock Musical.
Rare 1979 album produced by the West Community Theatre, Melbourne and featuring the early version of Men At Work as the backing band. 11 tracks are listed on the back cover. Also comes with the original booklet for the musical containing the lyrics and credits. This is the first album to feature Men At Work (name typos galore here - see the second pic scan).
The album cover looks a bit dirty and has one water stain at the bottom left of the front cover, also visible on the back cover. I would class this album as Good+/Very Good- There is a booklet inside the album which again, is a bit on the dirty side but otherwise is in good condition and complete.
I played parts of the album and there are a few ticks and pops though I didn't hear any jumps. It's certainly not mint and appears to have been played a few times. Must admit, I picked this up cheaply amongst a box of 2nd hand records 4-5 years ago and bought it on curiosity alone - an Aussie written and performed Rock Musical! Now that is rare in itself! Little did I know that the blokes who played on it would be slightly better known within 2 years of this release!
From what I can work out, this album is rarely found - given the custom label pressing, surely no more than several hundred would have been made and distributed. There is no catalogue number, bar code or anything like that. It appears perhaps only one copy has surfaced on eBay in the past 3 years. Take it as read that there a not copies of this album floating around in thrift stores here in Melbourne. A mate said that he saw a copy for sale for $75 years ago in a shop that got snapped up immediately. I'm starting the price at $50 because the condition is only a bit better than good.
The National Film & Sound Archive of Australia don't have a copy of this either according to their online database.
Men At Work are listed as backing band only but listening to one track on side two sure sounded to me like Colin Hay on vocals as well. No doubt Men At Work aficionados will know if this is true or not.
