Description
This is the very rare MFSL Test Pressing by saxophonist Stanley Turrentine, original matrix number is MFSL 1-116. This was never released by MFSL and its matrix number was re-issued to another album (…for what it’s worth, the Beach Boys- Surfer Girl). The surface is visually absolutely perfect. This is flawless in all regards! I have never played this to grade or other wise, myself. There are NO spindle marks on the white label.
This comes in a plain white album cover with just the words “1-116 Stanley Turentine†handwritten along top of cover (..see photo). This is in a rice paper sleeve. Pressing number’s on the vinyl are MFSL- 1-116 A2/ & B2/. Also marked as SR./2, (meaning it was mastered by Stan Ricker). Album has NO writing on either side A or B center labels. I would imagine this to be pressed on to what seems like 180-gram or less vinyl from MFSL (is lighter than the 200 series just by feel).
I got this from a very serious collector about 5 years ago. He stated it was never removed from its inner sleeve. I never played this & only partially removed it from it’s rice paper sleeve, with white cotton gloves on, to inspect & get the pressing numbers.
Test pressings are the first records pressed from a new mold. The mold is made from the ‘metal mother’. The ‘metal mother’ is made from the lacquer cut on the lathe at Mobile Fidelity’s lab.
There are only 5 of these rare items in the world, as mofi never released this selection to the public. Test pressings are the rarest of the rare as far as their availability goes! This test pressing would have the finest sound of any copy available for this title!

Content wise, I can’t say for sure what release this was by Stanley Turrentine. I looked back on my paperwork from when I acquired this, all it says is “test pressing ....Stanley Tturrentine Live..â€
I did some checking into releases by Turrentine & found a “live†one- In Concert V.1
Hubbard, Freddie / Turrentine, Stanley. There are probably others he did so I don’t know just which title this is. This record has 6 selections on it, 3 on each side.
I am sure that Mobile Fidelity did a tremendous remastering & pressing job here!
This record has been stored upright in a protective resealable mylar sleeve. This Lp was remastered with the Original master tapes of the recording session. It's pressed on to a special virgin high definition vinyl.
