Description

Capricorn Records Reel to Reel "Rough"
Grinderswitch

Unless The Winner of This Auction Decides To Re-Sell
You Will Never Have Another Opportunity To Own This Item.

This is a very rare and one of a kind reel to reel. It is a Capricorn studio rough of Grinderswitch. It was recorded at Capricorn Records in Macon, Georgia, in the early seventies. It was produced by Paul Hornsby and engineered by Ovie Sparks and Tony Humphreys.

This particular reel to reel contains three songs by Grinderswitch. It was recorded and used internally at Capricorn Records and likely had a significant role in Southern Rock history.

The song list is:
    1. How The West Was Won
    2. Home Bound
    3. Roll On Gambler

This reel came from the estate of Frank Fenter who, along with Phil Walden, was the co-founder of Capricorn. He was considered by many to be the driving force behind Capricorn. Frank died in 1983 from a sudden heart attack.

You can read more about Frank Fenter here.

My parents were friends with Frank's wife, Kiki. After his death, many of Frank's personal belongings were given away or sold before she moved to Scotland. My parents were given several items from the estate, including this very rare reel to reel. Shortly thereafter, it was packed away and put into the attic where it stayed for 23 years.

I lost both my parents in the past 2 years: my mom in 2005 and my dad last year in 2006. In the process of cleaning out their house, I came across the items that were given to them, including this reel to reel. Now, I am very sentimental of my parent's belongings and will not part with much. And while this is a very unique and special item and would be considered by many to be a prized possession, it was mostly forgotten by my parents. Therefore, I'm not emotionally attached to it which is great news for you.

This is likely your only chance to own this one-of-a-kind piece of music history. Just think as you're holding it; the role it played in music history. Think about the people it made contact with and the role it played in the development of the album. It's been handled\used by many music industry legends including Capricorn executives, engineers, and producers. Heck, it may have even passed through the bands hands. This isn't some mass produced, manufactured, commercial reel. No, it was recorded by hand, by real people at Capricorn Records in Macon, Georgia in the seventies.

As you can see from the pictures, this reel is in excellent condition. It was carefully packed away and stored in the attic for 23 years. I have played this reel and it sounds great.
