TITLE: Natural Black Inventions: Root Strata
LABEL: Atlantic, SD-1578, 1971 US Pressing
CONDITION: NM/M-
SLEEVE: NM sleeve is glossy and beautfiful. Only blemishes are the laminate is beginning to lift away from the opening (very likely factory flaw not damage) and a hint of ringwear at bottom of very black front cover and top of black back cover. With dark-colored art such as this, ringwear is very hard to avoid and this is very minor.
RECORD: M-, I play-graded entire LP and playback is loud, clear, strong and vibrant. Very faint background crackle on quieter passages, just from the age of the pressing. Beaufitul white label promo copy of this classic!
COMMENTS: A killer musical statement from Roland Kirk at a pivotal moment in his long and illustrious career. As usual this recording features Rahsaan on a number of instruments including (but not limited to): tenor, stritch, clarinet. tympani, piccolo and on and on! The man was a musical genius and it really shines through on this period. A really interesting band on this recordaccompanying Kirk: Maurice McKinley on drums, Joe Habad Texidor on Triangle, tambourine, and washboard, and piano player Sonelius Smith on a just few tracks. This is powerful music, I totally dig it and think you will too!
