SO HERE IS THE BIG QUESTION:  WHAT IS A RADIO SHOW?  WHY COLLECT THEM? WHERE DO THEY COME FROM? 

Well, those are good questions, especially if you have never known of them.

  Radio Shows are syndicated productions by one of several large and small distributors who supply broadcast product to radio stations normally during weekends when the usual air personalities have a break.  Many air on Saturday or Sunday evenings or during overnight segments.  They often feature some of the best known voices for their genre from across the country thus the Dick Clark's and Casey Kasem's and Rick Dees and Dick Bartley and so many others. 

People collect them for various reasons. 

 Some just collect the series because they like it and want them all.

  Some collect their favorite artists or genre of music.  Rather than an album by the artist or a compilation bought at Wal Mart or wherever, they have a unique presentation of their favorite artist or music not available anywhere else and often with dj presentation which is very entertaining. 

 Some collect interviews with their favorite artists as most shows had interview segments. 

 Believe it or not, some collect commercials especially old car commercials but certainly not limited to only those.

AND, these shows are in limited quantity. 

 They were pressed just for syndicated stations. Many have just a few in circulation.  Some of the more popular shows may have as many as a few hundred of each week's show that survived but think about it.  A few hundred for some 200 million Americans and millions of overseas collectors who look for unique presentations of their favorite artists or form of music. 

 AND they are increasingly hard to find.  They were first distributed on reel to reel tape if the show goes back that far into the 60's, then later on lp, later on CD and even later (after 2000 for most shows) on CDR.  Now they are not available at all to collectors since they are distributed by digital download much like you get your music from iTunes. 

These shows become rarer and rarer every day because the people who buy them hold on to them and the people who sell them, like me, are running out of them.   My best contact for these shows is running very low and when he is gone I will be at the mercy of finding a good deal here and there but never from a regular source.  The shows that you get now and hold on to will never decrease in value and only increase. 

Even during the recession which is hopefully ending, the value of shows did not diminish much.  The number bought diminished because people were afraid to spend their money and who blames them.  But the prices did not decrease much and again are on the increase.  I have prided myself since the start to provide the best and fairest cost with a no holds barred guarantee that you will be happy or I refund your money.  I sell them for near what I bought them for.  I give volume discounts and discount postage always.  As the postal service increases their rates, my shipping rates over the years has decreased. 

 And, I have one of the biggest radio show libraries in the world consisting of over ten thousand shows, so many that I don't even know all that I have and am sometimes amazed when I go to look for one show and find another that I did not realize I had.  

Finally, it is Americana at its best.

  Whether the show be from the 60's or 2000's, rock, countdown, oldies, country, classical, religious, jazz or big band, it is unique and home grown. 

 And you just can't find them anywhere.  Even record stores that still exist will rarely have any.   Radio shows are wonderful representations of the real golden age of radio at least music wise. 

 And every  one you buy is  an original, not a copy, not a remake - all limited editions in the hundreds at most and many much less.  Once you get hooked, like me, it is a love affair for life!    Welcome to the Club!    

If you enjoy classic RADIO SHOWS WITH SPECIAL FEATURES YOU WON'T BELIEVE, this one is a MUST!  Called "RADIO KANDY" it aired weekly on the TRANSTAR RADIO NETWORK.  

It was a two hour show on two lps in new condition with their cue sheets in mint condition and housed in the original cardboard mailer in which it was sent to the station.  You will never find something so old and yet so complete.  This is how it arrived at the station every week for at least a year in 1989.  You can see all this in the listing pictures.

In case you have forgotten, here is a brief biography of John Candy whom you have seen in countless classic movies that you loved:

John Franklin Candy (October 31, 1950 – March 4, 1994) was a Canadian comedy actor known mainly for American films such as Spaceballs (1987), Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987), and Uncle Buck (1989).

Candy rose to fame as a member of the Toronto branch of the Second City and its related Second City Television series, and through his appearances in such comedy films as Stripes, Splash, Cool Runnings, Summer Rental, The Great Outdoors, Spaceballs, and Uncle Buck, as well as more dramatic roles in Only the Lonely and JFK. One of his most renowned onscreen performances was as Del Griffith, the loquacious, on-the-move shower-curtain ring salesman in the John Hughes comedy Planes, Trains and Automobiles.

While filming the Western parody Wagons East!, Candy died of a heart attack in Durango, Mexico, on March 4, 1994, aged 43. His final two films, Wagons East! and Canadian Bacon, are dedicated to his memory.

Now, you never knew that he did a weekly radio show did you?  Most people did not know that.  It was conceived toward the end of his life (he died of a heart attack at age 43) during a period of lesser commercial box office successes although with some critically acclaimed roles.   There is nothing available as to how many stations were part of the syndication network or how long the show remained in production.  Here is an announcement of its debut:

'Radio Kandy' Sweet on the 'SCTV' Theme

"I don't think it will be a carbon copy of 'SCTV,' " comedy film star, Second City TV alumnus and "Radio Kandy" founder John Candy said this week. "Legally, I couldn't do that. But the whole cast (of 'SCTV') will probably be through here from time to time."

To begin with, one of the regular characters in Candy's two-hour rock and comedy program (airing locally from 8 to 10 a.m. over KNX-FM (93.1)) will be SCTV Network President Guy Caballero (Joe Flaherty).

"Yeah, Guy is with us. He owns 'Radio Kandy' just like he owned 'SCTV,' " said Candy. "Of course, we don't know how long he'll last. I mean, the Count (another Flaherty character who used to host a chintzy horror-film show) might come in and take over at any time. You just can't tell.

It was distributed in a 90 minute version in Canada, his home country.  I found on you tube the promo sent to stations seeking syndication rights for their market.  Watch it.  It is very interesting.

As you will see in the demo, and from the song listings below, the show was composed of the best of the 60's and 70's with some current music as well (80's) along with the best of John Candy's comedic genius and joined by members of his SCTV troupe from Canada from which he was discovered and became world famous.    

It is one of the rarest radio shows you will ever see and is a must for your collection whether you are a fan of the music or John Candy 

It has been in my collection over twenty years.   

The show comes on two LP's in new condition, and looking like they were just pressed. I can guarantee to you that these shows were played only on the day of their airing.  I know this because I got them all from a special source who was the station engineer and was given the shows in thanks for all the work that he did for the station.  They have been with him until now when he allowed me to have access to them.  These shows are as new as you can get and they can be yours.

I am pleased to offer these great  and rare shows to you.  It is not only the music but a piece of Americana that most people do not even know about.  It is a piece of radio history you are getting with these shows.  You just aren't going to find these shows anymore.  Think of what they will be worth in a few years!  (IF you wanted to sell.)  I am selling to share with other music lovers what I was able to get at a reasonable price.

 Remember that these shows are disappearing from the market because they are no longer available.  The lp shows have not been made since around 1991, much earlier for some shows,  and they have the truest fidelity as you know if you are an audiophile.  The CD shows are now also unavailable as shows are now only in digital downloads.  So, the days of unique shows not copied from the soundboard of a station and sold as such are gone.  This is all there is and will be. 

 It is said that selling radio shows is a vanishing hobby as the shows quickly disappear.  Well, I still sell Betamax machines and they sell quickly whenever I list them so that is not true, but it is true that they will become rarer and harder to find so grab them now while the prices are still reasonable.
