Description
ROXY MUSIC "Roxy Music" ORIGINAL 1972 UK ISLAND N MINT
BEAUTIFUL UNPLAYED? COPY, SENSATIONAL CLEAN SOUND
ROXY MUSIC
Roxy Music (The First Roxy Music Album)
ORIGINAL UK ISLAND (ILPS 9200) PRESSING (July 1972) OF ROXY MUSIC'S ICONIC, SUBLIME AND GROUNDBREAKING EPONYMOUS DEBUT LP - IN BEAUTIFUL CONDITION (this copy has possibly never been played as the labels show no spindle wear or signs of use and the vinyl surfaces are practically unmarked and shine like new) AND THE AUDIO DELIVERY IS SENSATIONAL THROUGHOUT - AN EXCEPTIONALLY CLEAN PRESSING, THE FINEST I HAVE HEARD IN A WHILE AND VERY, VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED INDEED
PRESSED ON QUALITY MID/HEAVYWEIGHT VINYL (much thicker and more robust than later issues) WITH THE FIRST ISLAND PINK RIM LABELS
MATRIX: ILPS 9200 A-2U / ILPS 9200 B-3U (stamped as 2U with a 3 etched over the 2)
MOTHERS/STAMPERS: 1/GM and 1/GPM
THE RECORD IS HOUSED IN THE ORIGINAL, DEEPLY GLOSSY GATEFOLD COVER, "Printed and made by Tinsley Robor Group Ltd." - WITH ANTHONY PRICE'S CHIC AND GLAMOROUS STYLING (the sleeve has the original first issue, factory sealed, folded under left side edge)
AND COMES COMPLETE WITH THE ORIGINAL PALE BLUE ISLAND INNER SLEEVE
Falling halfway between musical primitivism and art rock ambition, Roxy Music's eponymous debut remains a startling redefinition of rock's boundaries.
Simultaneously embracing kitschy glamour and avant-pop, Roxy Music shimmers with seductive style and pulsates with disturbing synthetic textures.
Although no musician demonstrates much technical skill at this point, they are driven by boundless imagination -- Brian Eno's synthesized "treatments" exploit electronic instruments as electronics, instead of trying to shoehorn them into conventional acoustic patterns. Similarly, Bryan Ferry finds that his vampiric croon is at its most effective when it twists conventional melodies, Phil Manzanera's guitar is terse and unpredictable, while Andy Mackay's saxophone subverts rock & roll clichés by alternating R&B honking with atonal flourishes.
But what makes Roxy Music such a confident, astonishing debut is how these primitive avant-garde tendencies are married to full-fledged songs. That was the trick that elevated Roxy Music from an art school project to the most adventurous rock band of the early '70s.
Track Listing:
Side 1: Re-make-Re-model / Ladytron / If There Is Something / 2 H.B.
Side 2: The BOB (Medley) / Chance Meeting / Would You Believe? / Sea Breezes / Bitters End
LABELS: Clean, bright and fresh labels with no spindle traces or signs of use - in my opinion this copy has never been played - the spindle hole is still quite tight - MINT
VINYL Visual: The vinyl still retains its original deep, like-new, glossy sheen and is practically unmarked (some light hairlines only which have no audio consequence) - NEAR MINT
VINYL Audio: The audio itself is absolutely sensational - crystal clear, strong, rich, clean and vibrant sound - beautifully produced and engineered. On playback at a very loud volume (which is how I always listen to my records prior to listing and it's always an immense pleasure to return to this one) there are no scratches, no sticks/jumps, no clicks/pops and hardly any surface noise - even the very quiet sections of 'The BOB' (always the most problematic track) play just about as beautifully and silently as vinyl possibly can - incredibly rare for this LP. Critically graded as NEAR MINT for audio - a fantastic copy of a stunning piece of work - in my opinion, just about as good as it gets - very highly recommended indeed
SLEEVE: The fully laminated chic gatefold is clean and fresh and deeply glossy with a glass-like finish and it still creaks when opened. There are tiny 'knocks' to the corners but these are very minor overall, a beautiful example - NEAR MINT
The Pale Blue Island inner is also NEAR MINT with no splits, just some light age-related discolouration to the edges
PLEASE HAVE A LOOK AT MY PICTURES - I USUALLY TAKE QUITE A FEW SO YOU CAN GET A CLEAR INDICATION OF EVERY DETAIL OF THE ITEM
ALL GRADINGS ARE VERY STRICT (PLEASE SEE MY FEEDBACK) SO YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU ARE BUYING - EVEN THE SLIGHTEST DEFECTS ARE NOTED SO YOU CAN BE 100% CONFIDENT WITH YOUR PURCHASE - I AM AN AVID RECORD COLLECTOR MYSELF SO I KNOW ONLY TOO WELL WHAT IT'S LIKE TO BE SEVERELY DISAPPOINTED WITH PURCHASES NOT PROPERLY PLAY-GRADED
I HAVE UPLOADED AS MANY PHOTOS AS I CAN BUT I WOULD BE MORE THAN HAPPY TO SUPPLY ANY ADDITIONAL ONES ON REQUEST
AS WITH ALL MY RECORDS THIS HAS A LOW START PRICE AND NO RESERVE
