        An exceptional pressing in superb condition that plays brilliantly from start to finish with super clear audio throughtout.

Yes – brilliant sound quality throughout!

THEIR SATANIC MAJESTIES REQUEST is a complex and varied collection of music, with many parts of the audio having little instrumentation. It is also a famously sensitive piece of vinyl and hard to find in decent audio condition. Worn copies can have a lot of surface sound, even on musically complex and busy tracks like ‘SING THIS ALL TOGETHER’, or ‘CITADEL’. 

I am pleased to say this is a great STEREO pressing, and an extremely loud pressing too. It sounds brilliant and plays with amazing separation and clarity! 

This great record plays up to the high visual grading and beyond. Strong sound free of any loud pops or clicks. The record plays with staggering power, with a minimum of surface sound during the tracks. Rich and detailed audio with massive dynamics, unique mix and production. I will give a detailed account below:

Beginning with the iconic 'Sing This All Together', the music bursts in with great clear audio, no loud pops or clicks at all and barely any detectable static. There is some very light static during the run ins but it fades as soon as the music starts. Moving into the wonderful 'Citadel', which demonstrates The Stones incredible subtle production layering, with notes and effects that are usually lost on most even relatively little played vinyls. Here the audio sings out with amazing clarity. For such a varied track this is just an incredible audio performance. No loud pops or clicks and barely any background static. On the quiet section there is barely any light static. There is a little light static between the tracks but again it is hard to detect, and clears up as soon as the music starts. I may as well confirm that this is the case for the whole album. 

'In Another Land'  bursts out with very little static in the quiet areas.  Great music with great clarity, and so hard to find with this type of sound. '2000 Man' also plays with great clear sound, and the instrumental section, heavily layered again, sounds great. The intro is so clear and sharp, with two pops in the middle and very little surface sound at all. This would be hard to ever better. Superb clear bright audio, it sounds amazing. 'Sing This All Together' has a long intro which plays with bright sound and barely any detectable static during the track. An incredible performance.  

Side 2. comes in with the incredible 'She's A Rainbow', following very clean run ins the sound is brilliant. Some light static between the tracks, but nothing obtrusive. The delicate 'The Lantern' sounds incredible. No loud pops or clicks and virtually no surface sound at all. Amazing for such a paired down track. Back with the upbeat 'Gomper', the audio is just superb, with minimal static and clear vocal layering. No obtrusive sound interference at all. The music bursts in, very loud, clean and bright and the sound is perfect.

'2000 Light Years From Home' alternates between the delicate and the rockous. This track can be a real test on this album and here it sings out with great clarity and an amazing lack of surface sound. This variable track is nearly always blighted with loud pops, clicks, buzzing crackle and distortion, but not here. Barley any occasional light static, and stunning clear audio, there are a couple of static tics during the second quiet section and a couple of light pops at the end of the  track. 'On With The Show', rounds off the album, again to the same high audio standard. Superb clear sound, even those quiet passages are really clear.  

All the way through every track plays with incredible definition. A lack of loud pops, clicks or obtrusive interference on this great record makes this a great collectable press of this great album. The music jumps out with definition and clarity, the vocals come through with tremendous power. Its the same with the bass guitar and drums, whilst the guitars multi layers come through crisp and clear. The tonal quality make this a sensational pressing. The clear and extra loud 1st cut engineering gives the audio a vibrant sound which cannot be beaten.

I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this great record. This great record plays through with No loud pops or clicks. There is barely any light background static at all and the music is brilliant and clear. 

The music jumps out, with definition and clarity, particularly on the percussion instruments, trumpets and vocals, which come through with tremendous power. As is the same with the bass guitar and drums, whilst the guitars come through crisp and clear.

A great all round example of this great  vinyl. Staggering first STEREO mix, unlike the re-issues which lack the impact.    

I would give this great pressing a strict audio grading of NEAR MINT.

THE RECORD – VISUAL GRADING  

A superb piece of glossy vinyl, and a really thick pressing that looks barely played. Deep clear grooves that can only be found on the original early pressings, this is an immaculate vinyl. Seen under a spot light it does have some very faint sleeve removal marks. 

There are a few very faint handling marks, this vinyl has been barely played. Unbelievable to think this vinyl is over 40 years old!

THE LABELS 

Famous and Rare UNBOXED DECCA labels are in wonderful condition, no marks or writing and no detectable light spindle trails. These are lovely labels with the metallic silver text.

Great all round examples! A really wonderful set that look virtually unplayed.

THE COVER 

These great covers usually suffer from a number of issues including lots of general wear, warping and scratching of the 3D panel. This is great example of this rare sleeve, and it doesn't have any of these issues, making it a very rare example. 

The front and back have a great glossy sheen, bright in colour with intact laminate. Due to the the 3D panel these Satanic Majesty covers are nearly always heavily bowed. This 1st Stereo cover lies very flat and true. There is little laminate creasing on the spine, the spine text is totally intact. There is very little corner wear, the spine is in great shape. The Inner gatefold is also in brilliant condition, near with really bright stunning colouring.

The opening edges are very square and un frayed.  The back cover is nice and clean, with NO ring wear, which is very unusual for these delicate covers, just some very small, light, barely noticeable indentations. 

A great example. All round, this is a really nice cover!!!

THE INNER

This original pressing comes with the original thin paper RED inner sleeve. Crisp and Clean there is some light creasing, but no seam splits or tape marks on the bottom edge. So rare to find an original red inner and this is great complete example. The record will of course come in a replacement plain poly lined inner.

RARITY

Arguably the Rolling Stones most experimental album of the  60’s, a DECCA PRESSING in this type of condition is now virtually impossible to find. The vinyl is so often played so much, heavily marked, scratched, with noisy, poor and distorted sound. The album sound range is so delicate it is almost impossible to find original, clear sounding vinyls. Any EARLY PRESSING examples with a record in this type of condition, that plays with really strong sound, is very rare. The cover is almost impossible to find without serious wear, even modestly worn examples are scarce. Finding a great cover like this, with a stunning  piece of vinyl, fantastic!.

Finding a pressing that has clear sound is very hard, as the instrumentation on Satanic Majesties is very light and diverse. Early DECCA pressings with 3D covers are extremely rare in genuinely Excellent condition. Most pressings available are very poor quality with heavily played, worn out vinyl. The varied mix of music on Satanic Majesties is very unforgiving with a complex array of sounds. So many pressings have been over played with scratches and groove wear distortion. Not many survive that play with clear audio and have un damaged covers.

MINT: Virtually unplayed. The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. Cover is pristine.

EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

V.G PLUS: The record will still be nice and shiny, but may have a few light marks, and will play well. Slight wear and tear on the cover.

V.G: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items.

GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, etc.
