The three-disc box set Singles Collection: The London Years contains every single the Rolling Stones released during the '60s, including both the A- and B-sides. It is the first Stones compilation that tries to be comprehensive and logical -- for all their attributes, the two Hot Rocks sets and the two Big Hits collections didn't present the singles in chronological order. In essence, the previous compilations were excellent samplers, where Singles Collection tells most of the story (certain albums, like Aftermath, Beggars Banquet, and Let It Bleed, fill in the gaps left by the singles). the Rolling Stones made genuine albums -- even their early R&B/blues albums were impeccably paced -- but their singles had a power all their own, which is quite clearly illustrated by the Singles Collection. By presenting the singles in chronological order, the set takes on a relentless, exhilarating pace with each hit and neglected B-side piling on top of each other, adding a new dimension to the group; it has a power it wouldn't have had if it tried to sample from the albums. Although it cheats near the end, adding singles from the Metamorphosis outtakes collection and two singles from Sticky Fingers, this captures the essence of the '60s Stones as well as any compilation could. Casual fans might want to stick with the Hot Rocks sets, since they just have the hits, but for those that want a little bit more, the Singles Collection is absolutely essential.

This one really does not require any introduction. This is everything you ever wanted to hear by the band all parents (and now: grandparents and great-grandparents) love to hate. Pretty much every noteworthy song Stones recorded between 1963 and 1971 is here on FOUR ABKCO LP’S. Probably the ultimate Rolling Stones collection in existence, this one even beats the gorgeous 1971 "Hot Rocks" set from 1971.

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL AS EXCELLENT. This is one of those albums that are somewhat difficult to grade. It is somewhere between VG++ and NEAR MINT, just a notch below NEAR MINT. A few light abrasions ARE visible, but they are extremely shallow, superficial  and only moderately visually distracting (nothing significant).For the most part, the vinyl looks impeccable without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)          The records come in their original, custom, inner sleeves, which are UNIQUE to this album. Some wrinkling and wear on inner sleeves noted

(c)           The box set comes with the original 60-page book included. (annotated by our good friend Bruce Eder, former ABKCO staffer and Rolling Stones expert extrairdinaire)

(d)          The records are pressed on a beautiful, high-quality, virgin-grade vinyl, which is usually used for audiophile, extended-dynamic-range, half-speed mastered and connoisseur pressings.

·       COVER (box)

THE BOX (1-INCH THICK CARDBOARD BOX) IS NICE --- ABOUT VERY GOOD++ (THE LID IS IN A SLIGHTLY BETTER SHAPE THAN THE TRAY)

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the box:

-         The box has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 2  (front side) and 4 (back side)

-         The box has a few tiny scratch marks on the BACK side

-         Minor shelf wear noted on the seams (nothing significant)

-         The box  shows JUST A HINT of yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging.   (BARELY VISIBLE)
