Description

ARTIST: ROLLING STONES  Signed by BRIAN JONES

TITLE:  DECEMBER’S CHILDREN (AND EVERBODY’S)

LABEL + YEAR:    London LL3451 Dark red label with silver boxed London logo; 1965 Mono Canadian pressing

CONDITION VINYL: VG+ due to a few hairlines and one mark across the 1st track on Side One which is not audible.  This LP plays closer to Excellent

CONDITION SLEEVE:   Excellent, textured front sleeve, and without any visible wear at all on the heavy card: the edges are all intact, there is no ringwear.

THIS IS SIGNED ON THE FRONT BY BRIAN JONES IN PENCIL.

Across Brian’s jacket shoulder is his signature written in pencil with two ‘kisses’; this is not easy to see on the photo as obviously the cover is dark and the pencil used was probably just a standard HB.  Consequently if you look you may be able to see the elaborate B or J and the two XX’s.  Please Note: I have tried to scan this and darken the image to show this more clearly, without success.

When I originally bought this record some years ago it had belonged to a fan with a sizeable Rolling Stones collection. The first thing I noticed about this record was the fact that it had a double sleeve, (one plastic sleeve over another), I became curious as to why this should be and on further investigation I spotted Brian’s signature in the bottom right corner across his shoulder.  Shortly after discovering this I took it to Sotheby’s and showed it to an expert in this field; I left it with him and when I returned he said that he thought it was genuine.  Other than this I have no concrete proof that this is so and was unable to ask the original owner as they are no longer with us.

It did occur to me though that if someone had wanted to forge Brian’s signature they would have done it in heavy black pen and not just a standard pencil.  So I do believe it to be genuine for the above reasons.

I also felt that as in the nature of Brian’s ephemeral existence there is a strange irony in this item in that the signature is unusually in pencil, unlike most which are in pen.  This is a great photo too of the band when Brian the founder was the front man and photographed as such with the other band members all in the background.

Apart from the fact that the Sleeve is actually in really great condition, (and this is not often the case in my experience of this type of sleeve), I genuinely believe this to be an extremely rare and unusual item.
