I have been a collector of vinyl for more than 30 years, with a collection of over 2,000 albums, the time has come to part with some of the collection. Over the coming months I will be listing some of the albums I have decided to part with here on ebay as well as on my bluesvinyl4u website, while the majority of my albums are blues related from all eras, there will be a mixed bag to chose from.

The Rolling Stones are an English band whose blues, rhythm and blues and rock and roll-infused music became popular during the "British Invasion" in the early 1960s.  The band was formed in London in 1962 by Brian Jones, and eventually was led by the songwriting partnership of singer Mick Jagger and guitarist Keith Richards. During their 1969 American tour, the Stones were introduced and have often been referred to subsequently as "The Greatest Rock and Roll Band in the World", and their early image of unkempt and surly youth is one that many musicians still emulate. The band have released 55 albums of original work[ and compilations, and have had 37 top-10 singles They have sold over 200 million albums worldwide!

On 12 July 1962 the group played its first gig at the Marquee club in London, billed as "The Rollin' Stones". The line-up was Jagger, Richards, Brian Jones, Ian Stewart on piano, Taylor on bass and Mick Avoryon drums. Jones intended for the band to play primarily Chicago blues, but Jagger and Richards brought the rock 'n roll of Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley to the band After shifting formations, bassist Bill Wyman would join later that December and drummer Charlie Watts the following January and would became the Stones' long standing rhythm section In June 1963 the band released their first UK single, a cover of Berry's "Come On".

The Beatles recommended the Stones to future manager Andrew Loog Oldham, and George Harrison who encouraged Decca Records to sign the band. After signing with Decca, the Stones began touring the U.K. and Europe. On their first tour of England, the Stones were packaged with American stars including Ike and Tina Turner, Bo Diddley, The Ronettes, The Everly Brothers and Little Richard.

Mick Jagger and Keith Richards have been the main songwriters for the Stones over the past forty years but in this, their first album they only wrote one of the tracks, called "Tell Me You're Coming Back". The other tracks were written by many top artists of the time.

Their first album was an instant success, reaching No 1 in the UK Top 20 Album charts, staying there for 12 weeks and No 11 in the Billboard Pop Album charts.

Many of the tracks on this album were drawn from their first UK tour in 1963. On this tour, they were a supporting act to a number of American R&B acts, which was a great learning curve for the future song writing team of Mick Jagger and Keith Richards.

Prior to the tour the Stones had released two singles, their first debut single was a Chuck Berry song called "Come On" released in 1963 and there second single, written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney called "I Wanna Be Your Man" was released in the same year. The Beatles also recorded this song, but in Beatles style of course, good old Rock&Roll. The Stones version was a Blues version. Both the Rolling Stones singles did very well and hit the UK top twenty charts.

I have carefully played the album twice before listing at high volume on my mono dedicated system and am pleased to say that it plays through with absolutely no skips, jumps, clicks or pops amazing condition for a vinyl that is 46 years old. The audio is clear, loud and vibrant with just a bit of static type crackle. Obviously with an album of this age a certain amount of static/dirt crackle has to be allowed for.

THE VINYL

The vinyl is of course the heavy robust early type with a nice gloss and is generally exceptionally clean considering this is a 46 year old vinyl, there are a few minor scuffs/marks but nothing at all which causes any issues with the audio as I have described.

THE LABELS 

The labels are the 1964 early press only Decca ridged with earliest only ‘Recording First Published’ this was changed in 1965 to P (in a circle). Also with the very rare ‘Mona’ track which was quickly changed on later 1964 presses to ‘I Need You Baby’ and the 'Hurran & Calvert' credit for 'Honest I Do' The labels are very clean with no writing, tears or damage, spidering is only minor and the spindle hole has little or no wear.

THE COVER

The very rare front laminated tri-flipback MacNeill cover has no, tears or writing but does show signs of some aging. The front has an amount of laminate creasing, which can be seen on the photos, rubbing/ringwear. Corners have also show signs of storage wear with a tiny split at the bottom opening edge. The writing on the spine is quite legible and clear. The rear is generally clean with an amount of aging to the flipbacks. The rear credits have the very rare ‘Mona’ track credit, as on the labels this was quickly changed in 1964 to ‘I Need You Baby’.

THIS ALBUM WILL BE SENT IN A LARGE BOX WITH CARDBOARD STIFFENERS THE VINYL AND COVER WILL BE INSERTED SEPARATELY IN POLY SLEEVES AND WRAPPED WITH PLENTY OF BUBBLEWRAP FOR ADDED PROTECTION.
