Amazing: what we have here technically DOES NOT EXIST and is not supposed to exist. To our best knowledge, the existence of this PROMO-ONLY U.S. MONO version of this Stones cover of the classic 1965 Temptations hit (this was not the first time the Stones were tempted to cover Temptations -- they also did "My Girl" in 1967) -- has never been documented or substantiated, and none of the price books and guides currently in print make any reference to its history or background. The historical importance of this item cannot be overestimated: this is an equivalent of discovering a long-lost animal- or plant species !!!

Ain't Too Proud to Beg" was originally slated to be the first single from the Temptations' 1966 Gettin' Ready LP. But Motown wisely decided to capitalize on "The Duck" dance craze which resulted in the group having their second number one R&B (pop Top 30) smash, "Get Ready," which was written and produced by Smokey Robinson. Motown founder Berry Gordy kept his promise to songwriter/producer Norman Whitfield to release "Ain't Too Proud to Beg" as the follow-up. Co-written by Whitfield and Eddie Holland of Holland-Dozier-Holland, the up-tempo smash proved to be the Tempts' biggest selling single since "My Girl," staying atop the R&B charts for eight weeks and reaching number 13 pop in spring 1966. It also solidified David Ruffin as the group's most consistent, flexible, and compelling lead singer.

(a)          WE GRADE THE SIDE "A" OF THE RECORD AS  NEAR MINT. Some MICROSCOPIC  abrasions  are (barely) visible, but are for all practical purposes inaudible,  and do not affect visual integrity or beauty of the vinyl. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new. Minor scuff noted on the stereo side of the record (do note that our grading does NOT cover side 2 which has been deliberately gouged to prevent playing)

(b)          Mono version of this title is much rarer that a regular, commercially released stereo version of this title. We estimate that stock copies of this album outnumber promo-only and test pressing MONO copies by a ratio of at least 500:1.

(c)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·       SLEEVE : This TEST pressing comes in a plain, poly-lined, generic 45 single sleeve; the test pressing never had any picture or custom sleeve.
