Description
On offer is the self-titled 1964 release on
DECCA RECORDS from
THE ROLLING STONES
'THE ROLLING STONES '
It's Cat. No. is LK 4605 and is MONO
This version has the 4' 06" of "Tell Me"
and has the ref. no. XARL - 6271 -1A On the side 1 run-out
and XARL - 6272 -0 3A on the side 2 run-out...
It has the 'unboxed' DECCA "EAR" SILVER/RED (PLUM) label,
signifying a later issue FIRST-PRESSING...
With albums this old and rare, condition is crucial,
so I'll try to be as complete and detailed as I can;
(So please read the following carefully).
Overall, I would grade the whole package (cover - both sides, inside sleeve, labels and vinyl) as VG++
(as per the Record Collector's Guide...see below).
i.e. "The record shows signs of being played a lot with a few light scuffs, scratches and subject to normal wear and tear"
I have played the album and it plays brilliantly well all the way through on both sides, with ONLY the ONE skip...
It's on the track 'TELL ME' - but - it is only a very minor skip and doesn't detract from the 'flow' of the song overall.
On the whole, the album plays fantastic, so I think it's easily possible to live with this minor tic...
If the LP had a professional clean, it might even rectify it.
It sounds really great with all the original clarity people expected from Decca's "full frequency range recording"
You can hear crackles on the run-in of both sides (found on many albums, even some described NM) but only occasionally in between tracks.
You don't notice anything much at all on any of the tracks themselves,
save for the one I've described in detail above.
As I've already said, it could well benefit from a professional deep-clean,
but the album plays perfectly well without this.
You can (hopefully) see from the photos and judge for yourself.
Sound-quality-wise - You can bid with confidence...
The front cover is VG++ and looks overall pretty good,
it's the laminated "Clarifoil" cover 'folded' over on to the back cover in a small 1/2" band.
There is bit of age-related ring-wear both sides of the cover and some creasing in the laminate
at the bottom of the front cover - nothing major though. (See photo).
There is some age-related browning to what would have been pristine when new, white/cream on the back of the cover...
I would grade it VG+
There is a ball-point pen mark top-left back cover, "27/6" - being the (original?) price at some point.
The spine is intact, but there are no tears or holes and it is still in good overall order. Again VG+
The inner sleeve is in good all-round ok condition.
It's a paper/polythene-liner one and the inside poly-liner is totally intact. VG+
So to recap;
CONDITION.
SLEEVE - Front VG++ Back VG+
INSIDE SLEEVE VG+
VINYL - A side VG++ B side VG (Marked down because of the skip, otherwise this too VG++).
LABELS - both sides VG+

I am in the process of selling a few rare and unusual records, some in MINT but most in the EX or VERY GOOD PLUS range of condition.
I try to grade records as accurately and as fairly as I can, as I have found that things I have bought on eBay have mostly been described pretty well, with only a couple in over nearly two-hundred transactions being not quite as described - but near enough for me not to complain!
MINT (M) - Sealed and/or obviously unplayed. Perfect condition.
NEAR MINT (NM) - Vinyl in new condition, record may have been played once or twice.
The cover may have very, very slight wear and/or creasing.
EXCELLENT. (EX) - The record shows evidence of being played with a few light surface marks or scuffs. the cover posssibly has slight general wear.
VERY GOOD (VG) - The record shows signs of being played a lot with a few light scuffs, scratches and subject to normal wear and tear.
GOOD - Plays reasonably well but has lots of scuffing/scratching that may be distracting. The cover shows lots of wear with creasing, tears and splits.
