RL LED ZEPPELIN II Robert Ludwig 1969 rare HOT MIX 1st U.S. pressing with thick cardboard matte gatefold cover with original inner sleeve!
The infamous Robert Ludwig Hot Mix with RL etched in the stampers on both sides, SS (Sterling Sound) etched on side 2. Very first pressing of this title featuring withdrawn mix later remastered to eliminate "excess" bass.
Played all the way through to determine condition. I made a note of every song and listened carefully for skips and excessive noise and scratches.
Almost impossible to find this in clean condition, but the good thing is that even beat copies rock hard because of the recording and the mix which is very loud in volume and mastering so tends to obscure a lot of the crackles and pops.

VINYL in VG overall, but veers to VG+ and G+ in some areas noted below. There are light hairline scratches with on more major one that does affect a section of one song.
SIDE 1
1. Whole Lotta Love: Strong VG, nice!
2. What Is And What Should Never Be: VG crackle in quieter segments
3. Lemon Song: VG+
4. Thank You: VG+/VG end during the fade out of the organ part gets noisy.
SIDE 2
1. Heartbreaker: G+ clicks at beginning, clicks noticeable during guitar solo
2. Living Loving Maid: VG occasional pop
3. Ramble On: G Small mark that causes crunch/crackle in beginning section during the verses, then VG when the music kicks in and cleans up by the end of the track. Detail photo taken of the mark.
4. Moby Dick: VG beginning then G+ w/ pops/crackle, then F repeating click toward the end of the drum solo for about 30 seconds, then cleans up to G+.
5. Bring It On Home: G+ beginning with crackle/pops, then cleans up to VG.
COVER in VG+ with rubbing along the seams and spine but all are intact. Spine is fully readable (see photos). Some light rubbing/staining on white areas of cover. Inner gatefold looks excellent! Corner wear
INNER SLEEVE in VG with creasing and yellowing.

US 1st pressing (with the 1841 Broadway address on the labels), featuring Robert Ludwig's "hot" mastering on both sides. These were withdrawn early because the high bass levels caused low-grade cartridges to mistrack, leading people to return the album on the belief that it was defective. Another engineer was then hired to recut a much less "hot" version of the album, and that is the far more common version.On some copies the Sterling Sound credit, "SS", appears in both runouts following Ludwig's "RL", and on others the "SS" appears only in the Side Two runout. The "RL" will still appear in both runouts.
This sub should only be used for copies with "RL" in both runouts. Later transitional pressings which featuring "RL" on only one side and another engineer's work on the other should receive their own subs.
"PR" in label matrix denotes a Presswell pressing.
"LW" in runouts indicates Longwear Plating metal parts.
"AT" in runouts indicates Atlantic Studios mastering
"W" in runouts indicates that blank lacquers came from the company Audiodisc.
