Description
LED ZEPPELIN II 2 ROBERT LUDWIG RL MONARCH PRESS. RL BOTH SIDES. HOT MIX.
1ST U.S. PRESSING 1969 THICK CARBOARD COVER, ATLANTIC RECORDS INNER SLEEVE
RL and SS etched on BOTH sides!
The infamous mastering masterpiece by Bob Ludwig pressed at Monarch in Los Angeles, California.
Played the record all the way through loud with treble up, no skips or repeat clicks, nice sound!
The Monarch pressing versions of the RL mix are always a delight, this version is bassy and full,
not perfect but sounds excellent on my system (Nagaoka MP-10 cartridge on Technic turntable
through Cambridge Audio integrated amplifier).
VINYL STRONG VG very close to VG+ but for a bIt more crackle in-between some songs and at
the beginning of each side, soft crackle throughout with some light pops here and there, a few soft
clicks at beginning of "Bring It On Home" and a bit more crackle until whole band comes in.
Overall an excellent listen and a good version of an RL Hot Mix!!
COVER in VG with strong graphics and inner gatefold. Yellowing/staining, Seams intact but have
rubbing and some chipping. Corner bumps, spine has yellowing and rubbing along edges and near
corners. The spine is readable and has 2" split in middle, section attached.
INNER SLEEVE in G+ with 1" splits on each seam side and tears at opening.
Notes:
US 1st pressing, featuring Robert Ludwig's "hot" mastering on both sides. These were withdrawn early because the high bass levels caused low-grade cartridges to mistrack, leading people to return the album on the belief that it was defective. Another engineer was then hired to recut a much less "hot" version of the album, and that is the far more common version.
Labels include "MO" suffix (indicating Monarch pressing) and "Mfg By Atlantic Recording Corp., 1841 Broadway, New York, N.Y.". On all matrix Side A and Side B there is "MR" in a circle that identify a Monarch pressing.
Some copies came with one or two hype stickers: one mentioning Whole Lotta Love and the other with a tracklisting.
Runout details are etched except for the Monarch logo (MR in a circle) stamp.
LW etching appears sideways compared to other text.
