Description

WOW, talk about a mega rare R&B 78 RPM record!  Up for auction is the first ever recording by the legendary Four Tops of Motown Records fame!  The story goes like this.  A 1950's party brought four teenagers from two high schools in Detroit together for the first time, and their chemistry and vocal harmonies convinced them that they should form a vocal group, and they decided to be called The Aims.  But this name was too similar to The Ames Brothers, so when they signed with CHESS Records in 1956, they recorded this record under the name The Four Tops.

You now have an opportunity to bid on one of the rarest R&B 78 RPM records on the planet!  One of the reasons this 78 is so rare is that the A side rocker tune titled KISS ME BABY was a total flop, and very few copies of this record were ever pressed.  And I really think that this rockin' tune (in the vein of THE MIDNIGHTERS) is quite good.  Apparently the R&B Radio Station DJ's didn't think so, and the tune did not receive the airplay it needed to become a hit.  The B side tune is titled COULD IT BE YOU, and it rocks as well.

The Four Tops signed with a few other labels, including Columbia Records, after their one record stint with CHESS Records, but it was not until 1963 when they signed with Barry Gordy's Motown Records, and collaborated with the legendary composing team of Holland-Dozier-Holland, did they record their first hit in 1964 titled BABY I NEED YOUR LOVING.  The rest, as they say, is history!  The Four Tops have been together for over 40 years, and they still play to "standing room only" audiences when they choose to perform.

The labels receive a grade of VG+, but most collectors of CHESS Records will surely not be surprised...the quality of the labels is just not very good.  The shellac receives a grade of E+, and the sound receives a grade of E+ as well.  You will be very pleased with the quality of the sound, as there is minimal surface noise on this highly collectible 78 RPM record.  This mega rare record belongs in that prestigious 78 RPM record collection, and I doubt that you will see another copy of this 78 on eBay anytime soon...if ever!

I offer a money back guarantee, so if you are not totally satisfied with this mega rare 78, simply return it, and I will gladly refund your monies, including shipping.

I only accept PayPal as payment, and please plan on paying immediately upon winning this auction.  Thanks for your interest.
