Description: Up for your consideration is the next in a series of unique discs, this one a set of 10 records as detailed below. Records 1-6 are 12". Records 7-10 are 10". The title on the original album holder is "Semana Santa en Sevilla, Celebre Miserere de Eslava, Sieses Y Saetas. En Discos Electricos Marca 'La Voz de su amo' ". Using a translater, Semana Santa en Sevilla is translated as "Holy Week in Seville." Let me tell you right up front that record #6 is cracked. I have the cracked piece which is about 1" x 4" long in a plastic bag to protect it in case it can be repaired. I'm not an expert on repairing cracked 78s. Sadly, I could find no other sets out on the Internet, so it may be this is close to a one-of-a-kind item, I doubt you could find a replacement record.
Some Internet research that seems to refer to this material:
Such was the interest that had awakened the genre in the early twenties, taking advantage of the recent introduction of electrical recording system (with the Gramophone Company was given its many advantages, very interesting documents) and immediately following a recording the head of the gramophone in Spain (the austere English HE Davidson) was performed, live in Barcelona at the Palau de la Música Catalana to the Municipal Band of Barcelona City Engineer (whose records we highlight some issues of Spanish Rhapsody well as Sardana), Davidson, on the occasion of the feast of Easter Seville, Andalusia journey undertaken in order to collect various soundscapes live our spring holidays (passion). To do this, first were installed equipment in Seville Cathedral where, on Monday and Wednesday Santo, conducted an extensive series (which were chosen out the top eight shots) during the musical representation of the famous Miserere of Eslava (Hilarion Eslava, 1807-1878), which was interpreted mainly by Pedro Checsan, Zechariah and Gabriel Arcos Olaizola, accompanied by the chorus of the Seville Cathedral, all of them directed by Maestro Eduardo Torres Chapel. Also collected four interpretations of liturgical singing and dancing (and Pavon and E. Muñoz Torres) executed by children Sixes. Composition of this Miserere, based on Psalm 51 of the Bible (. One of the seven Penitential Psalms - IV century BC - composed by King David, whose meaning is "Have mercy") annually, during the death of the Redeemer, is interpreted in this city in memory of the composer and teacher who was the Chapel Hispalensis Magna (Seville Cathedral). ( Once this hearing, the composition of which is an early work of the famous master of the Italian influences of the time you notice, Davidson installed the recording equipment in the Plaza de la Campana, Seville, where laying cables-de balcony to balcony-that supported the ambient mics and other mobile unidirectional, the Label (which now contained the name hispanicized Gramophone) performed live in the afternoon / evening of April 6, 1928 (Friday) ( 1 ) "As of Roses" and "What crime did Jesus", deep flavor and stale-as his singing-interpreted-as-we discussed together with that of other emerging artists (also contracted by the Company that he intervened) They were published in a special-purpose-created album where the cover contained red printed in gold letters, "Holy Week in Seville, Celebrity Miserere de Eslava, Sixes and Bolts". Album that was put up for sale in September 1928 at a price of 103 pesetas, remaining catalog until August 1933, the date on which this final price was increased to 109 pesetas.
Several unique things about this item: Firstly, these records retain the original shine with some short very light marks and fingerprints, grading by sight in normal room light. I'm sure if you took these and put them under a 1000 watt bulb, you'd probably find something that makes them less than mint. If you're that kind of collector, and after a recent unpleasant experience with a buyer from Malaysia, let me suggest this auction is not for you. I don't claim these records are mint.
Based on past experience and visual examination, I'd expect the eighteen sides to audibly average at least VG+(excellent). Record #6 AF201 is currently unplayable due to crack. If you'd like an audio grade before bidding, no problem, just drop me a note well in advance of the end of auction. You can then assign your own grade based on my comments and the grading scale shown below.
Secondly, at the time of this listing, no past/present copies found for sale on e-bay! NO COPIES FOUND FOR SALE OUT ON THE INTERNET!
So this is your chance to own a unique item at a reasonable price. Bid early and often so you don't miss out on this item!
My main system for playing 78s is an old Zenith system that plays three speeds and allows me to turn a knob which flips a needle to allow for playing 78 RPMs. If you have a player specifically designed for playing 78 RPMs, or can clean them, it (they) may sound even better.
It is further described below, please take the time to read before bidding.
Please e-mail if questions.
Be sure to check my other listings to save postage on multiple winning bids. Please explore the "Me" link above(next to feedback rating) to check out my store and some of the 15,000+ records / books / CD's / cassettes I have for sale as well as the LP to CD transfer service I offer.
I am using the Goldmine scale of G=Good(1), VG = Very Good(2), VG+ = Very Good Plus(excellent)(3), NM = Near Mint(4) when grading the disc(s).
Here is a summary of the record(s):
Additional criteria I use when audibly grading records for people:
- NM(4) = absolutely nothing wrong at all (very rarely happens--I've even opened sealed records and they don't play Near Mint)
- 3.5-3.9 = very, very light surface noise
- 3.1-3.4 = very light surface noise, very light pops
- VG+(3) = up to light pops and light surface noise (below this, one's enjoyment is affected, very subjective)
- VG(2) = up to medium pops and moderate surface noise
- G(1) = up to heavy pops and heavy surface noise
