Description

This is the second album by the (newly renamed Elmer Gantry-less) VELVET OPERA and introduces the great PAUL BRETT on guitar, whilst retaining the HUDSON/FORD nucleus. It is a more acoustic affair than the first and may be best described as 'progressive folk-rock' - although their rockier (and more psychedelic) side comes to the fore at times, particularly on 'ELEANOR RIGBY' which is something of a tour-de-force. The folkier tracks hint at what was to come later with the HUDSON/FORD setup. The cover is a little off perfectly flat, so I guess it would grade at Exc+: there are no flaws, marks or tears. Please see the pics.  Labels are clean, sharp and unblemished with a very little and very light spindle-marking on side two and none that I can see on side one. As you can tell from the amount of reflection in the photos, the vinyl has full sheen! Looked at under a VERY strong light there are a couple of 'paper' markings, of the sort caused by removing/replacing the disc to the inner. When play-testing this I did notice a couple (but only a couple!) of quiet 'ticks' between a couple of tracks, which (as there is absolutely no marking at all at these points) I ascribe to dust in the groove, so I reckon a grade of Near Mint is fair. The sound quality is tremendous.
