Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. MINT CLEAN VINYL ... looks unplayed ... SCARCE 1969 first printing ...plenty of rowdy hard rockin' action in the LAST album by the legendary "THEM" ... This underestimated 1969 THEM album may not have the original Van Morrison line up from 1965, even though the groups name was certainly worth something, by virtue of its association with a mega-hit "Gloria". There are many examples of bands using their old name for its association with greatness, even though the newer incarnation and its subsequent change in musical direction would clearly have benefitted from a fresh start. The Pretty Things are just one example that comes to mind. The inclusion of session guitarist Jerry Cole on this album (famous for his sessions on a myriad of late 60's psych LP's, including The Animated Egg, among others), virtually guarantees tons of fuzz guitar, and he doesn't disappoint here. Most of this material is clearly in a hard "fuzzrock" vein, in the cool style you might find in the Texan sixties. Overall the album is sadly overlooked, deserving of far more attention than it receives. By 1969 Them's line up was fraying. On the personnel front the band had imploded leaving bass player Alan Henderson standing as the lone link to Them's Belfast roots. Things were equally unsettled on the business front with the band having been dropped by Capitol's Tower Records subsidiary, leaving them signed with the small California-based Happy Tiger label. To his credit, for better or worse Henderson tried to keep the Them nameplate afloat via 1969's "Them". Produced by Ray Ruff, the album was recorded in L.A. with support from singer/guitarist Jerry Cole and an uncredited drummer. (Ry Cooder reportedly provided guitar on several tracks.) Even though the album sounded like it was recorded in a rush and with very little financing, musically the collection is surprisingly diverse and impressive. Admittedly, as lead singer Cole was an acquired taste, but his raspy voice (occasionally recalling AC/DC's Bon Scott - check out his performance on the rocker 'Jo Ann'), was well suited to the set's urgent, raw sound. Quite diverse, the track lineup included more hardrockers ('I Keep Singing') and psych ('Memphis Lady').The rocker 'I Keep Singing' is a strange way to kick off the album. Penned by Cole, the song was a true musical smorgasbord of influences including tribal percussion, acid rock guitar, and throwaway lyrics that continually referenced 1950s rock chestnuts. To its credit, powered by Cole's raspy voice and his fuzz leads the song generates quite a but of energy. One that grows on you with repeat plays ...'Lonely Weekends' opened up with a funny little nod to Them's 'Gloria'. Actually the famous 'Gloria' chord pattern formed the basis for the entire song. Overlooking that, showcasing some early synthesizer and Cole's raging guitar, this is another one that you should come to appreciate. 'Take A Little Time' is an up tempo rural rock flavored number. With Cole and Henderson sharing the lead vocals there really isn't a great deal to this one - basically the title track repeated over and over with a standard, move on... 'You Got Me Good' is a delight for anyone who considers themselves to be a fuzz guitar aficionado. We are huge fuzz guitar fans, so hearing Cole cut loose on this one is a treat. A nice rocker with a touch of Indian influence scattered across it. As mentioned earlier, Cole's voice isn't instantly likeable. He had a tendency to get raspy and raw with at least a slight resemblance to AC/DC's Bon Scott and those characteristics were on full display of the rocker 'Jo Ann'. I happen to be a big AC/DC fan to those characteristics didn't bother me. Great rocker which showcased Henderson's hyperactive bass as the lead instrument. Shame the song fades out... And, who would have ever guessed that blues-eyed soul and psych would make such a tasty hybrid? Cole's blazing 'Memphis Lady' is easily one of the album's highlights. Given the Wilson Pickett original was a classic, any attempt to tamper with it was bound to be a disappointment. Credit Cole and Henderson for giving the song a garage-fuzz sheen... Imagine Bon Scott singing a Tony Joe White swamp rock song and you'll get a feel for 'Nobody Cares'. If it sounded like a strange hybrid, it was ... though the slide fuzz guitar is cool.... While Cole's fuzz guitar is prominent, 'I Am Waiting' is the album's oddest effort. The ballad has a distinctive 'British' feel. Cole clearly didn't handle the lead vocal, leading you to wonder if this was a number that had been salvaged from earlier recording sessions with former lead singer Ken McDowell. Regardless, it is a nice performance and because it is so different, standing out as one of the album highlights. ... Written by former Them member Ron Elliott, their remake of 'Just a Little' is enjoyable, kicked along by Cole's fuzz and reverb powered guitar, this is one where the decision to 'toughen up' the song's pop structure paid off handsomely. CONDITION: The cover: thick and solid, the dark colors are almost ALWAYS found with shelf wear, this copy is way better than most found, VG+(+) having some light shelf wear on front, M- clean back, light corner wear, no split seams, no bends, no writing ...with the outer protective plastic on it looks like a strong collection keeper that you won't go searching for a replacement.
The vinyl: Very clean over both sides, MINT looks unplayed = smooth and clear, expect to play perfect, fantastic ... clean Happy Tiger labels cap off this winner
