Mail-order record club division of Capitol Records created in 1958 to compete with those of RCA Victor and Columbia. This subsidiary pressed its own records at Capitol's Scranton, Pennsylvania plant. It originally offered only Capitol recordings but soon licensed popular albums from other labels.  In 1968, Capitol sold the rights to their record club editions to Longines Symphonette Society while continuing to press non-Capitol LPs for the club.  In 1975, Capitol shut down the Capitol Record Club due to dwindling membership and sales. The company then licensed its catalog and current release titles (excluding Beatles, The recordings) to Columbia House and later, the RCA Music Service.
