QUINTESSENCE In Blissful Company (Island ILPS 9110Q) RARE Early UK Pressing w/Pink Rim MINT
RARE original early UK pressing of "In Blissful Company" by Quintessence on Island Records (November 1969).
"In Blissful Company" was the Notting Hill musical collective`s second album. With hindsight being 20/20, the reputedly India-, or (what was then termed) "raga rock"-oriented band probably had more in common with the droning space rock of Hawkwind or the back-to-basics approach of fellow furry freaks The Pink Fairies than Quintessence were then given credit for.
I for one admittedly had a good laugh when I saw Quintessence`s drug-fuelled freak-outs referred to as "a mixture of jazz, psychedelic and progressive rock" on wikipedia. Jazz? Ho-ho!
GRADING:
MINT- COVER. Original unlaminated UK gatefold sleeve in close to perfect condition. Tiny white speck (from store sticker removal) at top right. Please see photos for details.
MINT- RECORD with absolutely minimal signs of having been played. Also includes blue custom-printed Island Records inner sleeve in perfect MINT(-) condition.
The matrix stamps in the dead wax read "A-2U" and "B-2U", respectively. This shows the record to be an early UK pressing, c. 1972.
While not a very first issue, you will be hard pressed to find this nice a copy of "In Blissful Company" again at such a bargain price!
PLEASE NOTE: Over the next few months, we will regularly be offering a number of rarities, mainly progressive and avantgarde records: A very discerning, long-time collector friend left us his treasure chest! Not only are many of these lps extremely rare, they are almost all in MINT(-) condition - both inside and out.
As we slowly inch our way closer to spring, we will be spreading the goodies out, in no special order. Suffice to say that the best is still to come!
