With the return of Gary Duncan and the recording debut of founder Dino Valenti, Just for Love, Quicksilver's fourth album, marked their debut as the band they were intended to be. The ironic thing about that is that, led by singer/songwriter Valenti, they were a much more pop-oriented band than their fans had come to expect. On Just for Love, Quicksilver finally was Valenti's backup group (he wrote all but one of the songs), and while this gave them greater coherence and accessibility, as well as their only Top 50 single in "Fresh Air," it also made them less the boogie band they had been.

West Coast Psychedelia does not get any better or more musically competent than QMS, no matter which line-up or incarnation. This, their fourth Capitol album came out in the Fall of 1970 to rave critical reviews and popular acclaim. The line-up had changed slightly from their previous album ("Shady Grove", my personal favorite) and included for the first time since 1966 the legendary Greenwich Village singer-songwriter Dino Valenti (Guitar, Vocals) as well as Greg Elmore (Drums) - Late, Great John Cipollina (Guitar, Vocals) - Late, Great Nicky Hopkins (Keyboards) - David Freiberg (later of CSN&Y and Jefferson Airplane; Bass and Vocals), and Gary Duncan was back in the line-up for the first time since the band's great second album ("Happy Trails"). This is the most musical and melodious of all QMS early albums and their great contribution to the West Coast music of the 1960’s. The songs include "Fresh Air", Quicksilver's signature tune and their best known song. (b)          The record is  apparently pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!
