Description

Polyphony Eleventh Hour Records EH 1003-S original pressing psych/prog LP Without Introduction.

POLYPHONY – Without Introduction.

MEMBERS: Martin Ruddy, Christopher Spong, Craig Massey, Glenn Howard, and Chatty Cooper. TRACKS: Juggernaut, 40 Second Thing In 39 Seconds, Ariel’s Flight: Gorgons Of The Glade/The Oneirocritic Man/The Frog Prince, and Crimson Dagger. DESCRIPTION: From the Richmaond, Va. area. Jaw-dropping album from one the US's earliest progressive rock bands—it is safe to say that dumping an innovative product such as this on an unsuspecting audience, even back in 1972, baffled most listeners, thus a disappearing act which has relegated this gem to the obscurities hall of fame! Their music is dominated by heavy Hammond and an active core of drum play and congo bashing; add to this mix a penchant for surrealistic lyrics and off-center vocals and you get the picture. Try to imagine a band who, upon hearing Emerson, Lake & Palmer’s Tarkus for the first time, indulged in heavy amounts of mescaline and dropped by the studio. Assume that they are competent musicians and have carefully considered their music before recording. With that I think you have a vague idea of what this seminal progressive act from America were all about. Is it progressive or psychedelic? The answer is both. Extremely so!

THIS IS A STEREO RECORD LP. IT`S A RARE PRIVATE PRESSING. THE COVER IS VERY NICE WITH SOME SMALL SIDE SEAM CRACKING , BUT NO LARGE SPLITS

I lived in Virginia Beach in 1974 and 75 when I was in the Navy. Two guys that lived in the apartment next to me played in a band called Nantucket. They introduced me to 3 of the guys in Polyphony. I was playing bass for them, as a practice band, and we only knew a few songs by Gentle Giant and Genisis, etc. We never played out in the few months I was with them, but we did play a couple of original demos that were supposed to be themes for an Italian movie. They, Craig and Glenn, gave me this LP on one of my first visits. It has only been played a few times so it’s in great condition.
