Incredibly rare original Columbia Records promotional demonstration set prepared at the end of 1976 for record dealers and music stores to promote the new release of Pink Floyd’s 10th studio album Animals consisting from a large cardboard display card and a demonstration copy of the album. Original demonstration copy includes a commercial release cover containing a gold “Demonstration Not For Sale” embossed stamp. The cover remains in its original factory shrink wrap which contains the blue rectangular ‘Pink Floyd Animals 34474” hype sticker. As a rule, these copies were used for the “New Release” demonstration stands located at record stores. When creating the stands, a display card was also used representing a promotional cardboard poster executed in the design similar to the album’s cover with the use of the original typeset and symbols. Just like the 12" x 22" display card included in this set, they contained the detailed instructions on their optimal assembly. After the assembly, the display stand not only promoted the new release but also informed the buyers that the album was also available in the different formats. When cataloging the promotional materials, Columbia Records assigned the display card a separate “C-054” catalog number located at the bottom right corner on the front.  It’s very rare when you can find this Columbia Records promotional set for sale. Despite the fact that it’s more than 45 years old it’s in great vintage condition. The vinyl looks like the unplayed copies and possibly it’s the case. The matrix numbers in the runout groove of Side 1 end with the -1A stamper, which I’ve seen only on the “SPECIAL DJ COPY” release of “Animals” that is banded and edited for radio play. This issue came in a white sleeve having the “SPECIAL DJ COPY” stamped in brown at the center of the front cover. Side 2 of this pressing contained the -1B stamper, but this copy if I’m not mistaken also has the -1A stamper and it seems incredible to me. I’ve gone through the Pink Floyd archive and couldn’t find the issue which would contain the -1A / -1A pair. This “Demonstration Not For Sale” copy contains the commercial release Columbia Records picture labels with a wet dog on Side 1, and a pig and a sheep on Side 2. The album comes with an original heavy cardboard inner sleeve with the lyrics on both sides. The printed lyrics for the sixth line of the ending refrain of the song Dogs is "Who was given a seat in the stand," which is different than what is sung on the album. Incredibly rare unique promotional demonstration set for in-store use.

I grade the stunning cover as Near Mint Minus. The original shrink wrap is fully intact only having some light age shelf wear. The vinyl is visually Near Mint Minus and is possibly unplayed. The labels are very clean and are completely scuff- and wear-free. The original inner sleeve is in Excellent Minus condition and doesn't have any splits or tears, only having some very light shelf wear and some light hints of ring wear on the edges. The promotional display card is in great overall vintage condition with some very light shelf wear, scuffing and light signs of use.
