PETER GABRIEL/GENESIS 7 SEALED LP SET including PETER GABRIEL 1, 2, 3 / GENESIS/LIVE / GENESIS/A NURSERY CRYME / GENESIS/FOXTROT and GENESIS/SELLING ENGLAND BY THE POUND. PETER GABRIEL 1- The Genesis Out of Print 1st generation 180 gram Limited Edition Audiophile Mastered LPs (from the Original Session Tapes) and the 200 Gram Heavy Vinyl LPs of Peter Gabriel Solo Recordings have also been critically acclaimed as the finest and quietest ever produced of his recordings. It is a new listening experience that will virtually make you feel as if you were in the studio.>>>++ In 1977 there was much anticipation for the first solo effort from the flamboyant Gabriel. Three years had passed since his swan song with Genesis. He had certainly exited on a high note with THE LAMB LIES DOWN ON BROADWAY. While fans shouldn?t have worried about the survival of Genesis without their original lead singer, neither would they be disappointed in his solo debut. Produced by Bob Ezrin (Pink Floyd, Alice Cooper), he addressed the split with his band mates in the allegoric hit/Solsbury Hill, while retaining the art-rock sensibilities he had pioneered. Tracks include: Moribund The Burgermeister / Solsbury Hill / Modern Love / Excuse Me / Hmdrum / Slowburn / Waiting For The Big One / Down The Dolce Vita / Here Comes The Flood>>>++ PETER GABRIEL 2 - The pairing is ideal / the former front man of Genesis, as produced by the leading light of King Crimson. On this Peter Gabriel's second album, the songs', On The Air and D.I.Y. are stunning slices of modern rock circa 1978, bubbling with synths, insistent rhythms, and polished processed guitars, all enclosed in a streamlined production that nevertheless sounds as large as a stadium. Other tunes include A Wonderful Day in a One-Way World, White Shadow, Animal Magic, the tense yet catchy Perspective, and the reflective closer Home Sweet Home. Transferred for the first time from the original analog two track master tapes by Bernie Grundman using his all tube cutting system.>>++ PETER GABRIEL 3 - Generally regarded as Peter Gabriel's finest record, his third eponymous album finds him crafting an album that's artier, stronger, more song oriented than before. Consider its ominous opener, the controlled menace of "Intruder." He's never found such a scary sound, yet it's a sexy scare, one that is undeniably alluring, and he keeps this going throughout the record. For an album so popular, it's remarkably bleak, chilly, and dark < even radio favorites like "I Don't Remember" and "Games Without Frontiers" are hardly cheerful, spiked with paranoia and suspicion, insulated in introspection. For the first time, Gabriel has found the sound to match his themes, plus the songs to articulate his themes. Each aspect of the album works, feeding off each other, creating a romantically gloomy, appealingly arty masterpiece. It's the kind of record where you remember the details in the production as much as the hooks or the songs, which isn't to say that it's all surface < it's just that the surface means as much as the songs, since it articulates the emotions as well as Gabriel's cubist lyrics and impassioned voice. He wound up having albums that sold more, or generated bigger hits, but this third Peter Gabriel album remains a masterpiece. < and then there is "UP" which is clearly from the PG3 lineage. Transferred, for the first time ever, from the original 30 ips 1/4" master on Bernie Grundman's all tube cutting system, this Classic 200g Quiex SV-P pressing, packaged in a deluxe gatefold die cut jacket with printed inner sleeves, is the definitive LP version of this giant album. This is a rock record for anyone with good taste. GENESIS/LIVE - From very early on, Genesis was intensely interested in the staging of live shows. This wasn?t just a concert, and this isn?t just a live album. It is filled with moments of power (the closing section of ?Musical Box?) -- not so subtle political commentary (?Get ?Em Out By Friday?) and even humor when a bass string is errantly sounded between songs and Peter Gabriel announces ?That was an unaccompanied bass solo by Michael Rutherford.? It is a perfect representation of a group of brilliant young men who took their music very seriously, but never themselves. This recording shows them in their elemental form. Other included tracks are: The Return Of The Giant Hogweed -The Knife ? Watcher Of The Skies.>>++ GENESIS/A NURSERY CRYME - Enter Phil Collins and Steve Hackett for a set that eclipsed its predecessor (seventies TRESPASS) in technical ability. The 10-minute opener "The Music Box" benefiting from jazz influenced playing was a far cry from the delicate folk rock tapestries and chiming 12-string guitars of its predecessor. The infusion of a semi-classical structural sensibility had become more prevalent. Fragile ballads are at a minimum replaced by driving classic rock epics full with heavy guitar, baselines, and sweeping mellotrone. The sound occasionally recalls the refined but uncompromising instrumental attack of the Nice (particularly in Tony Banks/Keith Emerson-ish blast of organ bravura). The interlocking guitar and folky moments are still present, however, providing contrast to NURSERY CRYME's bolder moments. The group's sophisticated compositional style and Peter Gabriel's eccentric lyrics are at their height on "The Return Of The Giant Hogweed", "The Fountain Of Slamacis" and "The Music Box". GENESIS/FOX TROT - Their breakthrough album dominated by ?Supper?s Ready? ? a 23 minute epic - , which finds Peter Gabriel managing to sound soulful while singing such lines as ? a young figure sits by the pool, he?s been stamped human bacon by some butchery tool. This composition would become GENESIS diehards most beloved tune and is a gem of the seventies progressive rock era. Easily the most angular and eccentric GENESIS Album, and is where Peter Gabriel?s lyricism bears full fruit. ?Get Um Out By Friday? and ?Watcher Of The Skies? brim with Gabriel?s quirky combination of poetics, politics, and philosophy with the tricky beat signatures that are early GENESIS trademarks. GENESIS/SELLING ENGLAND BY THE POUND - Critics stated about this LP EXCELLENT. Deeper than anything they previously tried. Dancing With The Moonlit Night and The Cinema Show are genuinely moving. If someone had to pare the prog-rock story down to a handful of essential albums, this would undoubtedly be one of them. Peter Gabriel's startlingly unpretentious tale-spinning is at its best on the Battle of Epping Forest. Tony Banks eloquent, sophisticated keyboard work is a key element of nearly every tune and the electric/acoustic tapestry woven by Steve Hackett and Mike Rutherford is the perfect icing on the cake. Somewhat ambitious but entirely welcome is the Gabriel-era bands catchiest/quirkiest song I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe). The tale of a somewhat daft gardener. Phil Collins Lead Vocal on the gorgeous acoustic ballad More Fool Me paints the shape of things to come. If you only buy one GENESIS Album, make this the one.
