This record is in M- condition. The cover is VG+. This is a difficult recording to find.
This recording is of an artist and group that is very popular in Africa. It plays a meld of the music of many African nations as well as of western ones. In their music one can find elements of various African cultures as well as of western jazz and other popular forms. The group and Prince Nico play a music that can be considered pan-African.
The insert and the liner notes place this music and group in their cultural context(s). The insert produces a "translation" of the lyrics, which are in pidgin English, and refers to them as being in "broken English," itself a merged language.
The record listed here was the first to introduce this multicultural music to United States audiences. Initial pressing of this performing group was released in Africa in 1976. A licensed agreement was struck with Rounder records and they released it, introducing it to North American audiences, in 1980.
The music that Nico performs is not unique to him. It is a type of music found in many African nations. It is a popular music to which audiences dance. In an ever-merging world the mediums of song and dance merge, too.
