I have been introduced to this Italian prog band when "Celebration" was chosen as the jingle of the French Radio Luxembourg top 20 in 1973. As I liked it, I wanted to go further and discovered that they were produced by ELP.
The music of PFM is somewhere between Camel, Genesis and ELP. The ELP sides of PFM are somewhat warmer. The whole album is very refined with acoustic guitars, flute, violin, piano, harp, mellotron and synths. I especially like the deep basses giving this album a quiet power. "Rivers of Life" is an excellent introduction with many changes inside.
The using of the synthesizer and the mellotron mixed up with the other acoustic instruments is really brilliant especially in "Il banchetto" which is a masterpiece even including some impressionist flavours in the instrumental part just before the end.
"Rivers of Life", "Celebration", "Photos of Ghosts" and "Promenade the Puzzle" are as many highlights as you can't get enough of this great music.
Never a dull moment here.
