" Rough Justice "

1984 UK 12" VINYL EP

(Illuminated Records ILL 3212)

SEE OUR OTHER AUCTIONS for more Illuminated Records rarities (in the THROBBING GRISTLE etc department!) and related artists, or RIYL/similar artists.  We're putting up lots of music, VINYL, in this category of early electronic industrial cutting edge stuff.

Here's a vaguely hard-to-find vinyl collectible that you need to own if you like industrial avant garde groundbreaking electronic experimental electro that has influenced TONS of artists in the last 2 decades.  If you're a fan of TEST DEPT. , T.D.A., SPK, S.P.K., FRONT 242, Severed Heads, Absolute Body Control, ABC, Klinik, Front Line Assembly, Frontline Assembly, Throbbing Gristle Sisterhood COIL Sisters of Mercy a;GRUMH... Fad Gadget A - Split - Second Vomito Negro yelworC Clan of Xymox Cassandra Complex Front 242 Ministry The Normal My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult Psychic TV KMFDM Revolting Cocks Nitzer Ebb Skinny Puppy T.G.T. Greater Than One Laibach Pankow New Order Click Click Controlled Bleeding Chris & Cosey Human League Cabaret Voltaire.
This is the 1988 U.S. version of the record.  Play It Again Sam Records pressed it in Belgium for their part of the world, and Wax Trax! Records did all the work pimping it over here in the states for the American wing of PIAS.

The record/vinyl is at least VG+ and sounds fantastic.  I owned it, so I know its heritage. It shows minor wear, so you know it's been played before, but it was lovingly played, and there's nothing that will make noise.  The cover is 25 years old and has some very very minor edgewear, but nothing to take it under the EX/EX+ category if you're being Goldmine Grading scale oriented.  We tend to grade conservatively.  Meaning we UNDERgrade so that you'll find what you bid on a little nicer than you expected it to be.

Portion Control is a British electronic and industrial band from South London. The band calls its music style electropunk or hard rhythmic electronics. They are one of the most famous obscure electronic music acts in the world and have been honored and namechecked by the likes of Depeche Mode, Skinny Puppy, Front Line Assembly, Orbital, The Prodigy, and others and copied by many other artists. The band pioneered the use of sampling and used, to great effect, the Apple II computer based Greengate DS3 sampling and sequencing system.
Portion Control first formed in 1980 and the original incarnation of the group existed until 1987. They released a variety of seminal recordings on a variety of indie labels, some self-produced but mainly on Illuminated Records. In 1984 the band supported Depeche Mode on their UK and European tour. In early 1987 Portion Control joined the management roster of Tom Watkins and signed a record deal with London Records and promptly vanished. They reformed a few years later as Solar Enemy which survived from 1990 to 1993. Portion Control weren't seen again until 2002 when fansite 319 Online announced a resumption of activities by the band resulting not long after in a free downloadable software demo featuring graphics, a rare remix of an old track, and samples of new material. Nothing else was released by them, however, until early 2004 with the release of the critically acclaimed double album Wellcome (the title inspired by the work of Sir Henry Wellcome).

See the photo(s).  Sorry about my hand in the shots, (if it is), but I try to NEVER LAY THE VINYL DOWN ON ANYTHING, unlike lots of sellers, who FREAKIN' lay records down on tables and things to photograph them!  We give them all the very clean hand or WHITE GLOVE TREATMENT, as you see in the photos, and take the pics with someone holding the vinyl in the air, never touching it, pulling it carefully from its sleeve.  Whatever we sell you is going to be in the best shape possible. We're all collectors and know that other collectors appreciate the extra mile.  I mean, there may be a smoker in the building, but he doesn't blow it into the records, and we handle them as if they might explode! (Although they won't, postal person, we promise)

If you get your record and think it doesn't stand up to what we said in our auction, contact Johnny or Noel here, point your finger to this part of the auction, send us back your win, and we'll send you back your money.  It's that easy, sleazy.  Bid knowing you're safe in our nasty little hands.

And as I said before, we like to grade conservatively, so you end up being happy with what you get.  It's like a surprise!  And we start auctions low so you could end up winning a rare collectible for next to nothing.  Good luck!

This is a vinyl record, NOT A CD.  You play it on a turntable.  That's an arcane device that spins plastic around and around at a constant speed and a diamond on the end of a stick scrapes at it and makes noise that you hopefully enjoy.

Have a good time bidding. Maybe you can get it for a steal. Good luck. Hopefully you'll get it for a good price. If you have any questions, fire 'em at us!

If you buy up to two items, the postage stays the same. Over that, we tack on a dollar for each item.  Unless we're feeling rich on that particular day.

We will ship this ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD.

ORDERS OVERSEAS, ESPECIALLY TO EUROPE (AND ESPECIALLY ESPECIALLY GERMANY) ARE SOMETIMES TAKING A RIDICULOUS AMOUNT OF TIME.  SOME VINYL IS TAKING UP TO A MONTH TO ARRIVE.  IF YOU CAN TAKE THIS INTO ACCOUNT AS A POSSIBILITY, GO AHEAD AND BID.  IF, ON THE OTHER HAND, YOU ARE IN A FOREIGN COUNTRY AND ARE NOT PREPARED TO WAIT FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME, PLEASE DO NOT BID. And I don't mean that in an angry way, I mean it in a "we keep getting people in Germany and other countries overseas sending us angry letters 2 weeks after the auction ends, or starting a dispute over a record that is simply slow in reaching them because of the international overseas mail service.  So what I'm saying is this: if you're not feeling patient, please don't take it out on us if the record doesn't arrive quickly. We'll gladly take out insurance, or give you a tracking number, or whatever you want if you feel like paying extra to ensure that your record doesn't get lost. But if you just pay the basic postage and your record doesn't get there for 4 weeks, don't shoot the messenger.
