Clearly on a creative roll after the stomping success and creative elixir that was 'To Send You My Love,' the writing duo of Parish/Harvey shifted its balance and created this often overlooked dark gem.

From the outset, 'Dance Hall At Louse Point' is a sparse, achingly beautiful meditation on loss and darkness. Mostly. It's the sound of sensitive souls staringly blankly at the end, trying to wipe the stains from their consciousness. In more prosaic terms, it's the sound of Parish taking over the musical backing and allowing Harvey more space to create full narritives with her lyrics and voice. There are high points through-out, and some staggering violence too. John Parish's minimalist tendencies work beautifully in his own compositions but are summed up succinctly with the cover of the standard 'Is That All There Is?' If you've never heard the duo tackle this song... you haven't lived! It's a stunningly bleak but darkly comic potrayal of The End... delivered with a dry panache that is PJ Harvey's own.

This LP is often overlooked in Harvey's Ouvre but it deserves its place next to Rid Of Me etc. Not to mention that I think this lp is the RAREST PJ Harvey release. It's from the mid nineties, a time of plenty for CDs but of very limited vinyl pressings. I have no precedents for the worth of this LP, only that is scarce... I've never seen another copy! The condition of this one is also bloody stunning!

CONDITION OF VINYL: NEAR MINT. I never grade anything MINT unless it's sealed. Which is a shame because I certainly would grade this MINT if I didn't have standards to uphold! The playing surface is damn perfect. There are no marks, no scuffs, no wear and no pressing flaws. It's beautiful. I cannot stress enough that the playing surface is AMAZING. There are also NO spindlemarks on the labels. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.

CONDITION OF SLEEVE/INNER: NEAR MINT. Again, the sleeve and inner is stunning. The front and rear sleeve is unblemished and beautiful. The beige artwork coupled with the lovely warehouse photograph of our protagonists is in great stark contrast. The rear sleeve is also perfect... no tears or wear. There is the usual minor amount of wear on the extreme edges, but the spine is perfect. There is a miniscule discolouration on the top edge from a very tiny dint. You can see from my photographs that this is hardly noticeable... I mention it only to give to the full picture. The inner sleeve is also unmarked. PERFECT! Also included, to give you the feeling you've just bought the record from Rough Trade (or wherever) is the ORIGINAL Island record postcard which you had to fill in and send back to get on the mailing list... do they still do those? Happy days...
