Description
This is a fantastic example of quality music with a sleeve in Very Good condition, and the record itself would be classified as Excellent – which is very difficult to find.
It’s the original 1971 UK first pressing and is a very sought after album, not mention a bit of a classic of Space Rock in my humble opinion!
It's the classic early 1970s lineup of Hawkwind, and contains one of the best loved Hawkwind songs 'Masters of the Universe.' It comes complete with the "Log Book," a graphic novel of the band's journey through space, many of which have been lost over the years - especially as they only came out with the very first pressings of the album!
We love a bit of history, so here’s what Wikipedia says about this album:
“"You Shouldn't Do That" is an extended piece that they had been playing live from Crimble's time in the band, and he asserts that he should have received a writer's credit for the central bass line on which this is based. It was recorded for a BBC Maida Vale session on 19 May 1971 for the Sounds of the Seventies show, a bootleg version of the session can be found on The Text of Festival. It was the encore for the Space Ritual show but omitted from that album, later appearing in 1976 on the compilation album Roadhawks. It has been part of the live set at various times throughout their career, versions of which can be found on The Business Trip (1994) and Spaced Out in London (2004).
"You Know You're Only Dreaming" uses the riff and feel from Steve Miller Band's "Jackson-Kent Blues" from Number 5, an artist Brock has acknowledged as being an influence upon him. This too was recorded for the BBC Sounds of the Seventies session and has appeared in the live set at various times throughout their career, including The 1999 Party (1974) and The Business Trip (1994). "Master of the Universe" was written by Brock and Turner, although Anderson contends that he should also have received a writer's credit for writing the main riff. It is the only track on the album that could be interpreted as lyrically having a space theme, but may also be viewed as being anthropocentric. This was also part of the Sounds of the Seventies session and quickly became a live favourite and almost ever present in the set, appearing on numerous live albums. "We Took the Wrong Step Years Ago" is a 12 string acoustic number with a band jam in the middle section and its lyrics bemoan the direction of society. "Adjust Me" is a band improvisation. "Children of the Sun" is an acoustic guitar number, although after the vocal passage the repeated heavy riff is augmented by electric guitars and bass. The riff is a familiar one of the time, and it was also later used by Marc Bolan for his "Children Of The Revolution" single."
This LP is in Excellent condition, but the fold-out sleeve has some creasing and there's a small tear to bottom left hand corner of the rear cover of the Log Book, which you can see from the photographs - causing me to label it Very Good. Don’t believe me? Have a look at the pictures, and if you’ve got any questions please do let me know – I’ll be happy to answer them so you don’t miss out on this absolute record buyer’s treat!
I always use the Record Collector grading system in all of my sales, and have over 30 years experience in trading LPs – a real collector, so I know what I’m doing! The sleeve has some creasing on the front fold-out cover – it’s perfectly clear that this record has been very much loved and is in close to Excellent condition, which is why I’ve labelled it VG!
As for the LP itself, it has only very light surface marks and spindle marks – which is great for a record of this type! And when you listen to it, it plays very well with only extremely minor distractions (except for that gorgeous vinyl warmth – who doesn’t love that?)
This is a rare item that you’ll be hard pressed to come across again, especially complete with the rare log book, so don’t miss out (and make sure you have a look at the pictures – I always make sure they perfectly reflect the item as it is, with no retouching, no extras, no rubbish – just the item as you’re buying it!) This is a fantastic opportunity for the serious buyer!!!
DON’T FORGET: I am a real lover of records and I take the utmost care to preserve all of my records when I get them. If a record I’ve purchased can be improved in its condition, I use the Record Collector approved system of washing it in tepid water with soft soap, a specialist cleaning sponge especially designed for vinyl. Each side is carefully cleaned around the grooves, avoiding wetting the label. It’s then rinsed and drained, and dried off with a lint-free cloth. Once it’s thoroughly dry, I then clean it with record cleaning solution and applicator, and then dry it with super-soft paper towel.
Some of my records were cleaned years ago using this method, sometimes with remarkable improvements in aesthetic and sonic quality and no side effects, so I know that this is a tried and tested, optimum method of cleaning! Also, the covers are carefully cleaned with polish and duster, and again – no side effects even decades later, other than a massive improvement in how they look. I take all these steps to bring the records back to the very best possible condition.
All my records are stored in a carefully, temperature controlled environment, upright in plastic outers. Any record of a poorer condition is not as a result of my playing – it’s the condition that I bought it in, but I will list any shortcomings on the vinyl or the sleeve in my ads.
As an audiophile, even in my early years I used to commit any vinyl I had to tape to reduce wear and tear in the records, and in latter days, I put my vinyl on a hard disk – a Yamaha Natural Sound Recorder CDR-HD-1500. I would recommend this machine to ANYBODY as it’s fantastic for playing even your rare vinyl as a jukebox! This also means I am listening to the vinyl in its true condition, so I can accurately assess its audio quality without putting it at risk before I sell it to a lucky buyer!
I do all of this because I love the sound of vinyl – but I HATE wearing my vinyl out!
PAYMENT & POSTAGE: I am 100% competitive with the very best sellers in the market on postage and if anything, I undercharge. Where possible I will provide a brand new mailer and take every care to dispatch your item with the utmost care. Standard delivery is First Class, but do ask me if you’d like a different postage (Recorded, Special, etc) and I’ll be more than happy to accommodate this.
All items are dispatched within 5 days, after payment has cleared – obviously if you’ve got private feedback, or if yours is more negative than positive, I ask that you accept the cost of recorded delivery in order to avoid issues on receipt.
If you are not happy with your item, I ask that you contact me rather than leaving negative feedback straight away – it’s almost always the case that it can be resolved between us. I’m a nice guy I promise and as you can see I’ve had excellent feedback as both a buyer and a seller!
