Description
Available here is an original 12” vinyl record by the Pixies - Surfer Rosa. In this instance it’s a rare in-house/industry test pressing, produced for quality control purposes prior to the official release. It bears the blue and white Mayking Records Ltd labels, with various hand-written and rubber stamp marks present. In the UK, the official commercial release appeared in 1988 on the 4AD label. Please see my images for guidance and further clarification about this item.
These items are not normally produced with any sort of official artwork. However, in this instance there is both an outer and inner cover, as per the UK commercial release. It may have been added later but difficult to say for sure. There is also a plain-white, die-cut, inner sleeve (possibly original) and a plastic outer.
Identifiers - The record bears the following identifying marks -
Matrix / Runout - Side A - Etched - AD 803 A1 - MPO - JA WITH AN 'F'
Matrix / Runout - Side B - Etched - AD 803 B1 - MPO - JA NUDISM
Vinyl Condition - Very Good - The record is bright and clean and while there are no worrying scratches, a few minor surface marks will be found. Having listened to the record I can confirm that there is no jumping or sticking but a few clicks will be heard. Background crackle is present, with audibility dependent on the volume of the music but most noticeable during some track breaks and quieter moments. I’ve only given the record a cursory clean, so performance may well be improved with a little more dedicated attention.
Cover/Sleeve Condition - Excellent- - Light signs of wear but no splits or serious creasing. The original white sleeve is slightly discoloured.

Packaging - It is not my intention to profit from postage. Where possible I use good clean recyclable material but I also buy bubble wrap, brown paper, packing tape and glue and all items are well wrapped and protected before posting. Items are also weighed and postage calculated before I list at auction and a small percentage of the charge does go towards packing costs.
