The Dark Side Of The Moon MFSL 1-017 Original Master Recording
Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab
This very rare long out of print limited edition LP from 1981 plays with immense quality. Manufactured and distributed by MFSL Inc and pressed in Japan it is a half speed mastered LP and produced on high definition super vinyl. This one is a second issue pressing as the 'Original Master Recording' lettering across the top of the cover is leaning to the right.

Side One is Mint-
Side Two is Near Mint
The gatefold is Ex+The heavy duty card insert is Ex and the A4 catalogue inserts is Near Mint
Visual grading
The vinyl retains a lovely glossy sheen and only has a handful of very faint hairlines and certainly no scratches. It really has been very well preserved and only lightly played as there is not very much spindle wear. As per these releases the vinyl has always been kept in an anti-static sleeve. This is stunning visually and as described below the audio is of an extremely high standard.
Play grading
'Speak To Me' on Side One plays with superb quality and practically no background noise whatsoever. As you would expect for a MFSL pressing the clarity, depth and richness of sound is of high end quality that cannot be improved upon. Of course the audio quality of any vinyl depends on how well it has been looked after and I am pleased to report this one has exceptionally well maintained. The audio quality across Side One is astounding and there is no intrusive interference at all. There are no clicks, pops and only a handful of dust ticks. I am never one to exaggerate my gradings but it plays with a Mint quality that will impress any Floyd collector. There is no deterioration in sound and I have never heard better. The quiet sections play with amazing quality and with complete silence between tracks this is an audiophile's dream! There was a hint of static during 'The Great Gig...' but it still played with great clarity and depth as to be inconsequential.
'Money' on Side Two again plays as well as Side One with just a few very quiet dust ticks. The intro to 'Us And Them' is sublime with no interference and the remainder of the track plays in the same way. 'Any Colour You Like' has a little faint static and the final two classic songs play with a clarity you rarely get with the standard vinyl pressings i.e. none of the usual distortion. Just a touch of light static perhaps but a high quality ending nonetheless.
Gatefold cover
The heavy duty gatefold is in excellent condition with only minor shelf wear. There are a couple of tiny marks on the front cover and slight rubbing on a couple of corners. The top edges are near perfect except for one tiny 'ding' and the bottom edges have a little rubbing on them. The wide spine remains in great condition although there is some transparent tape running down it which I think may have been added later. The inside of the gatefold is very clean also with only some wear at the bottom of the spine.
Inserts
The LP sized MFSL insert does have a puncture hole bottom right but is otherwise very clean and in excellent condition. Just minor wear on the spine. The A4 sized OMR catalgue sheet is in near perfect condition. There is no warranty certificate with this album I am afraid. No posters or stickers were issued with the MFSL recordings.
Labels
The labels are in superb condition with only a little spindle wear.
