Ladies and Gentleman - welcome to a truly interdenominational Christmas! (this is the Christmas ALBUM even Osama could love – well, almost). We always found it rather entertaining that one of the most heartfelt and beautiful - not to mention original - Christmas albums ever recorded came from a Jewish guy in his early 20’s. Not only did this unorthodox attempt at mixing Christmas with Brooklyn borsht belt aesthetics circa 1963 survived, it aged with such infinite grace that it became a perennial Christmas classic. This is the original PHILLES records issue of this album; the insanely rare MONO WHITE LABEL PROMO pressing on Philles label. The wall of sound - a production method patented by Phil Spector (which involved - inter alia - torturing the artists for maximum effect: just ask Tina Turner who was tormented so badly during the recording of "River Deep, Mountain High" that her tight bra fell apart) - does not get any more vivid or palpable than here. This is a proverbial fortress of sound, consisting of multitude of overlapping layers of voices, sound effects, cascades of rhythm and ornamentation, AND IT COMES IN ITS ORIGINAL, GLORIOUS , BACK-TO-MONO version. A joyful, luscious, retrogressive, a*al-retentive, guilty-pleasure joy of Christmas past. Phil Spector is king!!! A KILLER ALBUM BY THE, ER…UM… ONE …(GASP!) -  KILLER ARTIST!…Finding a MINTY AUTOGRAPHED MONO WHITE LABEL PROMO pressing?!?! Forget it – not even a HOPE!!!  You are more likely to bump into very alive Lana Clarkson on Rodeo Drive this coming Christmas....

THE WHITE LABEL PROMO, RADIO STATION-, AUDITION OR DEMONSTRATION COPIES AND RELEASES (such as the one we have here) were often distributed to the radio stations before the record was released to the public, sometimes as much as four months ahead. These records are generally considered to be the "first among equals": the VERY FIRST generation and the VERY FIRST pressings of the particular title; a PROTOTYPE and the earliest known official pressing of the record.

(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL AS EXCELLENT. This is one of those albums that are somewhat difficult to grade. It is somewhere between VG++ and NEAR MINT, just a notch below NEAR MINT. A few light abrasions ARE visible, but they are extremely shallow, superficial  and only moderately visually distracting (nothing significant).For the most part, the vinyl looks impeccable without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)          The record is  apparently pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)             White Promo Label version of this title is much rarer that a regular, commercially released, version of this title. We estimate that stock copies of this album outnumber promo copies by a ratio of at least 200:1.

(d)          True Stereo ORIGINAL pressings of this album are NOT known to exist (reissues DO exist in stereo,  though).

(e)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·       COVER (THIS IS THE ORIGINAL, LAMINATED, GLOSSY COVER):

THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT EXCELLENT OR VERY GOOD++ (VG++).

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-         Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 3

-         Back cover has circular tarnish (grayish, dust-covered sections, which closely follow the contour of the record),  probably caused by friction or by rubbing against other covers during the storage. The tarnish is similar in appearance to a common ring wear, but, UNLIKE ring wear, these grayish areas may be possible to clean up with a minor effort and with a right cleansing solution.

-         Cover shows JUST A HINT of yellowing on back side, apparently from aging.

-         Cover has three corners slightly dinged

-         Cover has a visible "wrinkle"(crease)  in one of the corners.
