"Band On The Run" Test Pressing* LP

- c.1973 Apple Records - as per the photographs - pressed in UK by EMI - official cat. # PAS 10007 - matrix YEX 929-1 / YEX 930-1 there are no other markings to the run-off groove area except 'G' PROVENANCE - found deep in the back of Ted Carroll's storage emporium, this has not seen the light of day for over 3 decades - came from EMI when Ted was asked to clear out a number of offices back in the 1980's VINYL CONDITION FAIR - has been professionally machine cleaned - dull appearance, a number of surface marks, mild scratches - played throughout, plays with constant surface noise - it will not stick, skip or jump - the labels are as devised SLEEVE CONDITION n/a - found in outer plastic sleeve, new poly-lined inner provided P&P - will post worldwide QUESTIONS?

*TEST PRESSINGS invariably have the finest possible sound quality.

There are 2 reasons for this.

A.  The highest quality virgin vinyl is always used when producing test pressings. [ see more below]

B.  Test pressings are manufactured using a brand-new metal stamper that is being used for the very first time [see more below]

A.  Record pressing plants usually use a certain amount of regrind in the manufacture of  records. REGRIND is obtained by removing the centres from faulty or unwanted vinyl records and grinding up the residual vinyl. This is mixed with a quantity of new or virgin vinyl to be melted down to produce new records. Test pressings, A labels, promo copies etc., are pressed ONLY using VIRGIN vinyl, hence the sound quality will be better with less surface noise.

 

B.  As records are pressed, the stampers used to press the records gradually wear out. Over a run of 1000 or so records, the physical wear and tear of stamping out vinyl records gradually causes a deterioration in the nickel stampers and the records produced from these soundless sharp or clear. Test pressings etc., are manufactured in noticeably short runs, anything from 10 to 50 copies, so the stampers are producing perfect records.
