WINGS - BAND ON THE RUN VERY RARE 1973 TEST PRESSING NM STUNNING!
WOW!! For sale is an incredibly rare test pressing of Paul McCartney & Wings’ 1973 masterpiece album Band On The Run!!! It is in absolutely gorgeous Near Mint condition...when I discovered this amongst the large collection, it was housed only in a generic inner sleeve placed inside a generic white cardboard sleeve with this original test pressing paper tucked inside which shows the tracks, technical information as to what changes were made (tracks added, removed, etc.) This auction has no reserve.
The labels are plain white labels that have “Available only to technical and other authorized personnel for the limited purposes of testing and review. NOT TO BE PUBLICLY PERFORMED, REPRODUCED, SOLD OR OTHERWISE DISTRIBUTED.”
The few other examples I have seen of these very limited test pressings have usually had the track list written or stickered onto these labels and show lots of wear and age. This copy is nearly pristine. There are not even any spindle traces to be found on the labels. The disc itself is in nearly flawless condition with only a couple of the faintest, wispy sleeve removal traces visible when tilted under bright light. A very small “hazy” spot is visible at the end of side 2...that’s the best I can describe it, being a very slight discoloration...see the last photo...I’m being extremely thorough here...there are absolutely no scratches or scuffs of any kind anywhere on either side.
I guarantee the authenticity of this test pressing 100%.
This copy is from the very special collection of Bob Senn - a renowned Santa Barbara, California DJ and program director for KTMS FM “The Rock on the Coast” during the 1970’s. When Mr. Senn passed, his entire collection was acquired by my friend who has commissioned me to help sell them. There are thousands of records in the collection, almost all promotional copies that are in excellent to near mint condition. There are many unique items in the collection including a handful of different test pressings and promotional items, along with letters and postcards from record company executives.
Matrix/Runouts:
1: (etched) 1-3415-F-14.. * Wly
(stamped) MASTERED BY CAPITOL (there is also a sideways elongated Z or bracket shape stamped)
2: (etched) 2-3415-F-14 .. * Wly
(stamped:) MASTERED BY CAPITOL (there is also a sideways elongated Z or bracket shape stamped)
Disc: NM
GORGEOUS disc retains all of it’s original glossy sheen...only the faintest, wispy superficial traces visible when tilted under a bright light and the slight “hazy” spot toward the end of side 2 as mentioned above. See the last photo. As with many items in this collection, it was stored very carefully and appears to have been played very little if at all. I’ve only seen a handful of these ever come up for auction and none have been in such pristine condition as this one. I feel comfortable saying this is easily one of (if not the) best preserved test pressings of this album in existence.
Sleeve: Generic sleeve in fantastic condition with no splits or tears. “From the collection of Bob Senn” has been stamped on the rear of the cardboard sleeve. Capitol was written on the inner sleeve.
Insert: VG+
Original test pressing sheet shows light signs of age and wear. Small creases and rubbing wear from being stored by the disc.
Labels: NM-
BEAUTIFULLY CLEAN labels have no spindle traces or additional markings aside from the original “Available to technical personnel...” print. Being 47 year old white labels that have been touched by human hands, there is an astoundingly low amount of dirt or wear but there are the faintest of spots. (See photos)
This disc has been cleaned using a Spin Clean disc washing system with Spin Clean record washing solution and distilled, de-ionized water with absolutely no remaining or added minerals to remove surface dust and any dust that may have settled into the grooves. Once dry, I then placed the disc into a high quality, anti-static MoFi inner sleeve for further preservation.

Grading System:
SS (Still Sealed)
Unopened records, still in original shrink wrap. In original manufactured condition unless otherwise noted (i.e. evidence of mildew or bent corners, etc.)
M (Mint)
The record and sleeve are in perfect, original condition. The record may have been played but will have no evidence of deterioration. (I will only use this grade on SEALED records that appear to be Mint as I believe any non-new, opened record cannot be truly called MINT.
NM (Near Mint)
A nearly perfect record. Any visible defects are of the type that "disappear" when the record is tilted under a strong light and they should not affect play. Sleeves in near mint condition will have no obvious signs of wear. Practically imperceptible ring wear may be allowed but no creases, seam-splits, or other easily detected flaws will be present.
EX (Excellent)
A very clean record. Near mint except for slight, superficial signs of wear. Sleeves in this condition may have marginal defects, but will not have significant creases or splits.
VG+ (Very Good Plus)
A well-cared-for record that is noticeably less than perfect, but defects are not visually or audibly distracting. Record surfaces may have slight scuffs or light scratches, but are still primarily clean. Sleeves may have some creases or minor ring wear, but should not be split.
VG (Very Good)
A used, reasonable copy to play. Many of the defects found in a VG+ copy will be more pronounced in VG condition. Surface noise may be evident and sleeves may look worn, but the record is still a decent copy.
G (Good)
A well-worn record that is still playable. Good does not necessarily mean "bad" but a record in this condition will have audible distractions and may have visible groove wear. Sleeves may have all manner of defects, but are still intact.
FA (Fair) and P (Poor)
These grades are for beat-up records. I will only sell records in these grades if they are extremely rare and sought-after.
