Patto
'Roll 'Em Smoke 'Em Put Another Line Out'
Island, UK, 1972
ILPS 9210
THIRD ALBUM from this highly respected British progressive rock band featuring the consumate talents of vocalist Mike Patto and super guitarist Ollie Halsall. If ever a band deserved to have made the big time but were so cruely denied the opportunity then it was Patto.
The beauty of Patto's music was that they were not afraid to mash together different styles from cool Mingus style jazz to full on riff-rock ala Led Zeppelin. It was done with such consumate ease that the music sounds like a free flowing river of creativity punctuated by unexpected twists and turns that will leave you stunned and, to a degree, perplexed. Halsall, now deceased, is without doubt the single most creative guitarist of the era and here I'm including masters of the craft such as Beck, Page, Holdsworth and Bolin. His solos are slinky, unexpected and super fast. So fast, in fact, that your jaw will unhinge as he wizzes through some of the most difficult mind bending licks you'll ever hear. Ever since I first heard his playing I've been a life long devotee.
Killer tracks include the brilliant and super heavy 'Loud Green Song' and 'Flat Footed Woman', the funky duplicity of 'Singing The Blues On Reds', the super heavy prog of 'Turn Turtle' and the brilliant experimental 'I Got Rhythm' - sounds like Captain Beefheart fronting the Sensational Alex Harvey Band. The album's most complex piece is 'Cap 'N 'P' And The Atto's (Sea Biscuits Parts 1 & 2)' which really takes the band into an amazingly adventurous playground - truly astounding!
This is an album that will enthrall and captivate you. You will play it once and like it. You'll play it again and love it. You'll play it for a third time and sell the rest of your collection.

This is a vinyl album NOT a CD. No time wasters, nit pickers or deadbeats- retribution will be swift and mercyless. Bidders with very low feedback new to ebay are often deadbeats so please don't be surprised if I run a check on you in advance. All gradings are visual but may have been spot tested to double check. I very rarely list records that are in any way scratched- they go in the trash- and I will only list a scratched record if scarcity dictates otherwise but with full disclosure. Often vinyl display 'scuffs' which are surface marks (mostly caused by sliding in and out of the inner sleeve or careless handling) but NOT scratches and they do not have any effect on playback. If the vinyl has a scuff I will try and mention it. Even my Vg+ records are way better than most gradings on ebay- check my feedback for vindication.Gradings are cover/vinyl. All records are sold as-is that means no refunds or returns except in very rare circumstances. I am not a lending libary so don't ask for a refund (I've been burn't in the past with people buying records, taping or CDRing and then returning them and I've also had scratched records returned in place of clean albums). If you do not accept this rule then please don't bid. I accept Paypal, UK cheques/PO's, Euro's. NO US checks or MO's. Insurance against loss or damage is not included and must be requested seperately if required. I will only refund you when I have received the refund, if any, from the Post Office which could take months. Payment must be received within 10 days- no excuses. Hey why not check out my other auctions and save with multiple postage. I list a fine selection of seventies leaning Prog, Psych, Hard Rock, Folk, AOR and Country Rock on a near weekly basis so make sure you check in regularly or you may miss some good and unusual stuff. Lastly feel free to get in touch if you have any specific wants. Thanks.
