This was the last "official" Otis Redding album, issued posthumously more than 2 years after his death and compiled from the frantic final recording sessions Otis had just days before he died in a plane crash, Otis Redding was fighting with his own demons, as well as effects of a major surgery on his larynx which rendered him inactive for most of his last summer (1967). As if he knew that his mortal hour was near, he poured his heart and soul in these, final sessions of November/December 1967. What he left was an abundance of material (not all of it top-notch) - which was lovingly compiled on three (3) posthumous albums by his label mate Steve Cropper (of Booker T & The MGs). Of the three albums which collect these, last session tracks, "Tell the truth" came out last and was by far the "funkiest" and most energetic. Not as emotional or expressive as the "Immortal" album, this is nevertheless a slab of prime Otis Redding, not to be missed. Track listing: Demonstration - Tell the truth (by Ray Charles) - Out of Sight (by James Brown) - Give away none of my love - Wholesale love - I got the will (later covered by Etta James) - Johnny's Heartbreak - Snatch a little piece - Slippin' and Slidin' (by Li'l Richard) - The match game - A little time - Swingin' on a string. The compact disc version of this album has been out of print for a looong time. Just try ordering it from Tower Records, and you will see. Absolutely indispensible for any `Big O` collector.

THE WHITE LABEL PROMO, RADIO STATION-, AUDITION OR DEMONSTRATION COPIES AND RELEASES (such as the one we have here) were often distributed to the radio stations before the record was released to the public, sometimes as much as four months ahead. These records are generally considered to be the "first among equals": the VERY FIRST generation and the VERY FIRST pressings of the particular title; a PROTOTYPE and the earliest known official pressing of the record.

·       RECORD

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL  AS  NEAR MINT. Some VERY LIGHT AND SUPERFICIAL abrasions – mostly sleeve scuffs -  are (barely) visible, but are probably inaudible,  and do not affect visual integrity or beauty of the vinyl. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)          The record is apparently pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)           White Promo Label version of this title is much rarer that a regular, commercially released, version of this title. We estimate that stock copies of this album outnumber promo copies by a ratio of at least 40:1.

(d)          Stock (commercially released) mono copies of this album are NOT known to exist.

(e)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·       COVER

THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT VERY GOOD++ (VG++).

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-        Cover has a completely split top seam. This split seam was delicately taped by the previous owner with a piece of transparent scotch tape

-        Cover has a partially split bottom seam (between 2 and 4 inches  / 5 to 10 centimeters)

-         Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 3

-         Cover shows some light yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging. (nothing significant)

-         Cover has some visible wear along the top and bottom seams (nothing significant)

-         Cover has one corner slightly worn / dinged

NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:

-        No cut-out (drill) holes.

-        No cut-out corners

-        No saw-marks or indents

-        No dirt/dust rubbing stains (friction marks caused by rubbing against other covers)

-        No writing

-        No stamps

-        No peel-off marks

-        No stains

-        No mold or mildew spots

-        No stickers or labels

-        No water damage

-        No razor marks, scratches, pressure marks, lines, streaks, or  cuts.

-        No warping

-        No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover

-        No glue traces or wax residue.

-        No bar codes

-        No RIAA stamps or stickers.
