Description
This is 50's rock at it's earliest!! Chuck was one of rock and roll's founding fathers, he was at the start of it all.. a true rock and roll pioneer!! He was pretty much along side of Elvis, Buddy Holly, Jerry Lee Lewis and Bill Hailey among a few others. This guy was rockin' a good 8 years before the Beatles even came around! In the early 1950's, he was influenced by T-Bone Walker and got his break in 1955 when he went to Chicago and met Muddy Waters. Muddy told him to contact Leonard Chess of Chess records and the rest is history. Even though this was his first album, Chuck already had several hits out as singles starting with Maybellene in 1955 and Roll Over Beethoven in 1956.
I believe this is the earliest pressing with black Chess labels. The cover is in VG to VG+ condition. It just has a little surface rub and two light creases bottom right corner area, otherwise the edges are all very strong with only one light 1/2" beginning of a split in top center. The vinyl plays through very nicely with some crackling and a couple of tics. It also looks nice, still lustrous with only a few light scuffs, VG. It's VERY DIFFICULT to find this cover in this condition.
