ORGAN PIPE, KEF / GRAVIS HOME SUBWOOFER UNIT
Built for a classical organ enthusiast – this is a great-sounding subwoofer unit for use in the home. It adds those low bass frequencies often missing from standard hi-fi set-ups. The box has a history – I am told that it used to be part of an “open wood” organ pipe which became redundant from St Mary Redcliffe in Bristol in the 50s (Garth Benson era).
Inside the box are numerous sound baffles, a Gravis bass amplifier (model 1, Control Q, made in England), and two Kef original bass speakers, pointing down to the floor. The Gravis dates from circa 1980, when I fitted it, but the Kefs are much earlier – early ‘60s I would guess, but they are intact despite their age. It was constructed by an old friend of mine, a sound engineer from the west country. Now, sadly, it is too big for our smaller house.
Would be wonderful if an enthusiast could keep this going – it reproduces low / fundamental organ tone magnificently – unpopular with the rest of the family as it vibrates between floors if up too loud! Sits well under a grand piano, out of the way! It is on furniture casters – easy therefore to move about.

Due to its size and weight, it is for COLLECTION ONLY from the West Sussex coast. I am not able to arrange couriers etc – so please only collection. It lives in a smoke and pet free home.
