Up for bid is Olivia Newton-John's highly collectible LP box set released only in Japan. Produced in limited quantities in 1982, the "Olivia Newton-John Box" immediately became one of the most sought-after items in Olivia's catalog.
Before the advent of the music CD, serious record buyers often tried to purchace records pressed in Japan. Japanese record companies manufactured their albums and 45s using a special "virgin" vinyl which produced an extraordinarily clean sound. This collection became a veritable Holy Grail among Olivia Newton-John fans not only because of its rarity, but because of its pure, high fidelity sound.
Today, Japan is still noted for their music releases. The CDs that are produced in Japan often contain extra tracks and other bonuses not available on non-Japanese releases. The practice of including Obi Strips on their albums continued when they began releasing CDs. It is this commitment to quality that has ensured Japan's status as one of the top exporters of their music products. This same commitment to excellence existed in 1982 when "The Olivia Newton-John Box" was produced.
The box contains all ten ONJ albums released in Japan up until that time, as well as an album of rare tracks made exclusively for the set. It also contains a 45 called "A Private Message," a two-sided spoken-word track recorded by Olivia Newton-John for inclusion in the box set. This is the same 45 that alone has captured hundreds of dollars at auction when it somehow became available separate from the box set.
Also included in "The Olivia Newton-John Box" are a full-color booklet of photographs of Olivia taken during the different phases of her career, and a booklet containing Japanese text as English lyrics.
