If one thing is for sure, we would have killed to be present at Dave Okumu, Tom Herbert and Tom Skinner's gig at The Crypt in Camberwell. This incredibly talented trio don't just straddle genres, they stray so far from the path of predictability with both their choice of source material and their interpretations of that source material you need breadcrumbs to find a way back home. Not that you'd want to. Taking music by contemporary icons such as Bjork, not to mention more underground acts like Factory Floor, and juxtaposing those next to all-time heroes like Miles Davis and John Abercrombie, they create a deep and immersive jazz tapestry made from a plethora of musical textures. If anyone wanted to know what two decades of playing together and exploring sonic possibilities sounded like, this is it.
